Hello all :) well lots going on in the garden this week!

I have teeny tiny beans on my french beans so they should be ready next week and then they will be used for my friends coming up for dinner. Lots of my winter veg has germinated so will be planted out soon including lots of lovely rainbow chard- the last lot was really pale, which makes me wonder whether I had got normal chard instead? so this is lovely and bright! Also in that mix is cauliflower, romanesco, calabrese, spring greens, beetroot, onions (various types), carrots and some other bits and bobs I can't remember. Plus loads of cut flowers

Will get out in the garden tomorrow and mow the lawn and clean up the garden generally then give everything a good feed. Hopefully it will be sunny enough to do that tomorrow!

Well have a good day all, I better get into town to replace my shears and have a look about!

  • Had a day in the garden/kitchen yesterday.

I sowed a final set of beetroot, some swedes and some pak choi into the empty pots I made harvesting beetroot and other bits and pieces.

Picked my beet so I have 2 jars in the larder and I also tried a recipe for spiced courgette chutney. Eating it with cheese on a sandwich as I speak since there was only enough for one full jar and a little bit left over so eating the leftover bit instead of leaving it to mature. the recipe for it and I can tell you it's lovely - tastes like burger relish - is available here

Trying to grow some stuff myself. Have spuds in black bin bags, courgettes are doing well, basil is brill so is parsley. Brocolli is pathetic, just leaves no chunky bits yet. Had loads of rocket, then I went away for a few days and it 'bolted' and tastes horrible now. I have coriander growing, but it has gone all strangley and has flowered, does this mean it has 'gone to seed' and what exactly does that mean?

It has gone to seed so you wont get many more leaves but you can wait until the flower die off and collect the seeds to sow again or use in cooking, my corriander did this and only found out later that it needs a very deep pot as it has a tap root so needs the soil to be deep
    hope this helps :)
  • Getting lots of courgettes from my 4 potted plants..been using them in all sorts of stuff, baked, fried, in bolognaise, having some pretty much every day now it's great.
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!

    Hello all

I've been away for 2 and a half weeks and now I'm home and my garden has gone to pot!! My DS2 said he would water everything and I gave him a list of what needed watering and when and I came back to very sorry looking toms (although I managed to harvest quite a lot yesterday), dead courgette plants, VERY sad looking pepper & chilli plants although I think they are salvageable (is that a word??!). My salad leaves have bolted, two pots of beautiful grasses are completely dead, my lovely marguerite plant ditto and the bonsai that my two DS bought me for my birthday is also dead so I am very, very sad :(

I asked my mum to keep an eye on things and to dead head or harvest anything that grew but apart from two cucs she hasn't touched anything

Ah well, I now know that for next year.......don't go away in July or August :rotfl:

Was feeling mightily jet lagged yesterday but today I'm going to give the garden a good water and feed, feed, feed all my beloved plants and to hope that I can still salvage some things.
