Thanks :O)
Onions don't need supporting. They'll be fine just flopping around a little bit.. Good for you on starting to grow veg! You'll find it very addicting.0 -
i started doing my veg patch last year, but i didnt want to eat any of the root veg as i have a major problem with all the local cats!!!!! they seem to think my front garden is the toilet and they constantly foul on my veg, so ive put off planting much this year, ive only just planted runner beans and peas, really want some carrots in the ground though as there my favourite,
does anyone have any ideas to keep them away?
ive tried big bottles of water thats was supposed to scare them but they pooped on them aswell!!!ne day i WILL be debt free
:rotfl:i hope!! :rotfl:0 -
Thanks for the reply Beccatje, i just wasnt sure, so far most of our stuff are going well but they only thing that we have actually eaten so far are the radishes and they are really good. i must say i am already addicted and its great hehe!Been away for ages and feel like a newbie again!0

Slug pellets attract slugs and are poisonous and are best avoided when growing veg. You could try half a citrus fruit or melon (with the pulp removed) turned upside down (they'll hide beneath it during the day so it makes them easy to find). Otherwise the best thing is to go out with a torch around 10 o'clock at night and look for them (then get your own back in whatever way you feel is appropriate). It works especially well if you've just had a light shower of rain.
Oh no!! I have covered my raised beds in slug pellets - the seeds are just coming through - are they all going to be inedible now?:eek:Preemie hats 9 :j0 -
Grr, just lost my post...
Well, I've had a fairly frustrating week. I haven't been well and apart from today haven't really been in the garden. I've been lurking on here a bit though.
But things have been happily growing without me! (Husband was on watering duty, with very specific instructions!) My strawberries are looking good, lots of little strawberries on them now.
Cucumbers are ready for repotting as are the broad beans.
Tomatoes have all got trusses starting. I did have a problem with greenfly, mainly on the Ferline, so they've been sprayed with organic bug free and seem much better.
On 20th I sowed silverskin onions, leeks and second lot of carrots which have all germinated.
Oh and in my infinite wisdom, I also sowed 3 pumpkin seeds which all germinated! One day they were barely through the soil, the next day they were an inch tall with 2 huge leaves and now they need repotting! Quite what I'm doing to do with them later is a bit of a worry! :rotfl:
Hi savingmummy, are you settled in? My toms stayed about that height for a while then shot up, maybe root forming? Anyway, I wouldn't worry. Mummy to an amazing little girl0 -
I can not believe this week lol. Early last week I was worried about where I'd put all my seedlings. Then I think it was Tuesday, I was given keys to an allotment 41ft by 90ft. Totally overgrown as u can imagine. Wednesday we started clearing it.., it was clear by Saturday. Rotivated and ploughed over the weekend. Now three rows of potatoes planted, one row of onions, 40 ft of peas, a row of runner beans planted and in a mammoth session I don't know how many califlowers, cabbages and brocolli planted (all donated in return for keeping an eye on our neighbours plot and doing some watering etc.., fair deal as he actually has 6 allotment plots and I was out watering them til 10 O'clock) today. We now only have 1/3 of the plot to fill.., but I thought I'd die in the heat today lol.
So I have been smeared in dirt more times than I care to mention this week.., my day of work is limited only by the light but lol.., having the time of my life.
But I am getting a free sun tan (in spite of high factor sun cream) and lots of exercise lol. Who needs a gym.., just get an allotment ha ha!0 -
Need a bit of help with my French beans. They have now reachedc the top of their 2m canes and going to be touching the conservatory roof soon. How big do they go? Am I supposed to do something or do they just stop growing? It's my first time0

Blimey, I hope you have a ladder for picking them. Just a thought though, can the insects get into your conservatory to pollinate the flowers? If not, you will needs a (very) long handled paint brush.0
