My husband bought me some seed potatoes, earlies and maincrop. I'm not sure if I have to wait till the frosts are finished to plant them or if the earlies can go in and hope the frosts are over by the time the green shoots are showing?
They are happily chitting in egg boxes at the moment. I'm North West too!0 -
Another North West girly here too!
I'll be joining in on this... only thing we grew successfully (thanks to cats and slugs killing everything else) was courgettes, rhubarb and about 5 strawberries :rotfl: Oh and due to neglect of the garden had lots and lots of blackberries at the back of the garden that were scrummy!:o:D
Think this year we will try for
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Courgettes
Strawberries
Potatoes
Blackberries
Need to really sort myself out though as i havent started anything!0 -

Ive put mine in yesterday I have british guard whuich had the longest "chit" on, thr charlottes have barely got started. I planted the 3 with the longest chits in in a pop up waste containers. A followed the instructions in Titchmarsh for VERY EARLYS. They are in my unheated roof room with fleece on the top secured with elastic. ( also warming my compost for future sowings)
I definatley NEED to buy this book it is very comprehensive. Someone on here said they got it for 6.00 the other day in Smiths, so I'm going to see if I can get one too.
Absolutely bucketing it down here in London, there wont be much doing today but we are going to the museum of garden history as there is a seed fair on. I can sense Im going to buy more "stuff".
I looked at my first seedling now the first leaves have opened up in the propagator. :j im so excited about this! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I'm sure this will be on the forum somewhere but I sowed my sweet peppers and chilli seeds last weekend (they're on my kitchen windowsill in a small propagator type thing) - can anyone tell me how long they may take to germinate please?
7-10 days.
Now can anybody tell me when I should be taking them out of the propagator and moving them to individual pots?
I'm sure we can piece it together between us0 -

Thanks Pink_numbers - yes it was very painful but I'm ok and have no alternative but to rest up!!

This is my first year of attempting to grow ANYTHING ever! I shall be using tubs and containers and a raised bed. I shall be attempting to grow potatoes, carotts, onions, leeks, tomatoes, courgettes, rhubarb, beetroot, lettuce and peas. I feel exhausted just remembering them all, let alone growing them. I figure that if I plant enough of everything, something has to grow out of that lot, surely?Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140
