Hi everyone, having a few dilemmas. Last year I grew some amazing toms, had quite a few fans, started them from seed and planted out and they went great guns, beginners luck I think.

This year I am trying harder, started from seed but everyone on here seems to be soo much further on than I am. Repotted on Sunday cos they were soo pathetic but are now showing proper leaves. Is this too late? Others seem to have really sturdy proper plants, mine are about an inch tall.

On the other hand I now know I jumped the gun with my runner beans. Inside but about a foot tall and leggy. Are these worth planting deep or is it best just to sow direct and start again. Have a big pot (50cm diam) that I was planning on putting 5 canes and plants into.

Also bought mini pop sweetcorn. Learning curve, they grow 7 ft tall :rotfl:
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

I used to have a cat and he was a real hunter. His speciality was bringing home live baby animals and leaving them under the kitchen table. We went in one day and could hear squeaking noises, looked under the table to see a baby rabbit looking back! Poor thing was rather confused. He also systematically emptied a mouse nest once.

Goodness me a rabbit, blimey. Couldn't believe it she sailed past me with this thing her mouth, lucky my dad is staying at mine so was able to deal with it, phew!!

    Hi all,

Moody, i started my toms and cucs well after most people on here, keep going with them as i think with spring being late to arrive this year, hopefully we will get a longer growing season through Autumn.
Mine have just got their first true leaves!

Went to Morrisons and they no longer sell the buckets 8 for 99p..... they give them away free!! :D I was given 15! :j

Forgot I had used all my compost yesterday though, so going to b&q later to get the 3 bags of 70ltrs for £10.00

Glitterati - trugs are best from Asda or Home Bargains, b&m etc, £3.00 for a 27 litre one i think.

I personally am not impressed with the fruit canes from the pound shops - every single one I have bought from there this year and last year have all failed to grow!

Try your local garden centre, wilko's or I have had good deals from "spaldings" - though once you buy from them, they never seem to stop sending you mailings and "you have won a prize" letters!!

Heynonny - LOVE your pics - I feel rather inadequate now! Lol

    Happy growing all!! :D xx
2009 - Attempting to grow my own Kitchen garden..... :o did it!!!
2010 - Attempting to make my garden a beautiful place for dd2 to enjoy!

Someone said they use old plastic bottles as cloches and you just cut off the bottom. But what do you do about the top - do you leave the cap on and water through that when you need to. And also if you leave the cap on is there enough air for the plant to grow?

As you can tell I am a real newbie!

Just having a bit of a catch up in here although haven't been up to that much due to the interchangeable weather we've been having here!

Have now had to earth up each of my potatoes several times so they seem to be going well! Must have had to do it 3 or 4 times within a week so they are obviously undergoing a bit of a growth spurt! :T

I really must plant my pea seeds too, but have just run out of compost (again!) so will have to wait until I'm able to pop out and buy some more. No flowers on my strawberries yet, but am guessing it's quite early for them anyway? Garlic and salad leaves doing well and tomato plants looking good - I hope to plant these outside in the next few weeks! It's all go!

Yeah well Im having a depressing day

Japanese long beans seem to have died :o

Runner beans not looking too clever :( am i the only person who cant grow these, Ill do more :o

My risky courgette that was very early, as expected has taken a turn for the worst too :(

I can see some spending coming on
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
