    I. You can claim up to £39 on normal postage but you have to provide evidence of the cost of the item to you, not what you sold it for.

If you are a private seller. You wont have to do this. The RM will refund you the ebay sale value with no problems

TBH he sounds like a chancer chasing non delivery after just 2 days :(

Yup, chances are he's received it, noticed no proof of delivery and is claiming non-receipt. If he goes via a paypal claim he WILL win and be fully refunded.

I'd still give it over a week for delivery though. Refund the buyer than clain from RM after 15 days. Oh, and don't put stoopid terms in your auctions!

I think this is only applicable to business sellers. Private sellers can claim total the value of sale up to the covered level.

It's been some time since I bothered to make a claim, I've had relatively few postal losses and tend to just absorb them unless I smell a rat.

Back to the OP, I'm still really stunned and disappointed that people even need to ask that question in this day and age.
I would have thought the answer is obvious, despite what guff people put in their listings.

Disagree. The OP has every right to ask. It's a learning process for everyone, and nobody should assume that because they know the answer, that everybody should. It's only since I started reading forums in earnest that I knew the correct answer, and I've been selling casually on Ebay for years.
What is happening to the English Language? These are not isolated, but repeated every day.
'Definate', 'Aswell', 'Rediculous', 'Payed'...and the best of all 'Could Of'. How can anyone think that 'Could Of' can actually mean anything. You may as well write 'Could Zebra' for all the sense it makes.

Maybe then it says more about the morals of the seller who asks the question - why would they think that the buyer should be out of pocket by sending off money and not receiving anything back in return, or having to go through the hassle of making a claim?

I've never seen any of the big e-retailers, Amazon, Play, Argos, Ebuyer, John Lewis, Tesco etc boldly state that they are not responsible for non-receipt, so why should ebay sellers be any different?

Just my own train of thought, not an accusation...

    Thanks for this.
I think I have been a bit naive. For some reason I did not believe that he did not receive the item, then I looked at the feedback he has left for others and it appears other items have not been "received".
First and last time I have sold anything on ebay.

Sounds like your naive t&c written into the auction attracted his attention, thinking he could get away with claiming it hasn't arrived...

Don't let it be the last time you sell. You just need to send things recorded delivery, particularly if the buyer has feedback suggesting they have claimed non delivery more than once.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I wouldn't worry about recorded, just take the 'not responsible' terms out of the listing. I send around 100 items a month, nothing goes recorded and I had no losses for the whole of last year. I've had three this year, two on ebay (both to high feedback buyers) and one to an Amazon buyer.

  • I had a buyer who told me they hadn't received the item - I kept in communication with her and asked her to open "item not received". All our communications were friendly and about two weeks later she told me her neighbour had taken in the item and forgotten about it! So everyone was happy.

Why did you ask her to open a dispute against you?

I have just sold something from ebay. I posted it on Monday and got proof of posting. It has not arrived yet.
If it does not arrive, who takes the hit?
Does the seller normally refund, or is proof of posting enough?
    What is the norm here?
