Fellow Black Donkey bankers...I need your help

Hi Guys,

I need you to answer a quick question :D

I've just been told that all Lloyds TSB customers have been sent a letter, and are required to go to a branch and show ID.

For those that bank with them; have you had such a letter? Have you been asked to do this?

For everyone; I was told this was in accordance with the FSA...anyone shed any light on this?

I will post why later...however, it's tea time :p

Thanks guys x

Laura xx

Requirement under money laundering regulations. Have tsb made a boo boo by not asking for id when opening accounts.
ps why donkey- it's a black horse?

I haven't received a letter asking to show ID. Would be a bit hard, as I normally prove who I am using Lloyds TSB statements... :p

FSA need ID for purposes of not being a money launderer. They should not have allowed you to open the account if you haven't provided enough ID.

Given how they have performed at times, it's not even a donkey. Go straight to asss - do not pass Go! do not collect £200.

if tsb have allowed people to open accounts without sufficient id or even asking for id what are implications for bank and us?

the implications for the bank if they have failed to ensure appropriate docs etc under money laundering regs is a seriously heavy fine. Investigation by the Serious Fraud Office and obvious adverse publicity.

As a fraud investigator i would say its more likely that they are just carrying out a check on current customers to ensure no fraud etc. i really dont think anything to worry about guys but keep us posted

Sorry guys, I had left it somewhat open...

Right, here's the story. I've been with Lloyds for a few years, and have a current account with them, run (pretty much - bar one bounced cheque afew months ago) and I was doing my online banking like a good DFW, and I spotted the 8% gross Monthly Savings account...now that looks like a good plan me thinks, I'll have me one of them.

To apply you have to either call and drop into branch - which was fine, so I called the 0845 3 000 000 number, and was put through to their UK call centre..went through the usual rigmarole of security questions (incediently, am I the only one who has to count through on their fingers lol). Passed that test, then the lady turns round and says, I'm really sorry, but it says here that you need to present ID at your local branch, FSA guidelines - we can't so anything to your account. Oh, right, says I, and dazed, put the phone down.

So I went and told my mum about it, and smelt a rat - so I call back, and get put through to the indian call centre. (which I hate, cos I always have problems, and it makes me feel like I'm being racist)

I answer all the security questions again, and then ask why I'd been told this, as I was concern regarding secuirity etc. He asks me to speak up, so I repeat myself...then tells me he can't see any such thing. I ask where it's gone then, as only I'd only called 20 minutes before, nope, still can't see anything...but he can help me with anything I'd like on my account.

What I would like, mate, is for you to tell me what the HELL is going on with my account! He then turns round and says, hello Miss Laurajayne, I wasn't able to hear you, what can I help you with today    So again, I reiterate, and ask why I was asked...he then offers to open the account for me, by then I say no I don't want the account, I want to know what on earth is going on. Ask him to read account notes or whatever..can't do that  Throughout all this, he'd just go silent, very irritating.

Eventually he says he'll put in a complaint...I say I don't want to put in a complaint, I want my question answered!!!!! I eventually got put through to a supervisor (30 mins later). She tells me that yes, I need to go through to a branch, as ALL customers recieved a letter telling them that the FSA have told them to get EVERY customer to go in and do this.

Well, I didn't get a letter from you.....funny that - never heard of that in my life. Told her that if all customers are getting these letters then surely training should be given, as her team member REALLY wound me up.

I just thought I'd ask you guys if you'd ever heard from them about this, or (which I had thought) I'd been spun a story.........

    (I can't even get to a branch - I work from home in a little village....ho hum)

What do you all think, should I do anything?

    Thanking you muchly :A
