E.C.U Repair

Hi all,

I need to get my E.C.U tested and repaired on my Ford Focus. I have looked locally and only heard bad things about our local couple of garages that deal with this sort of thing.

There are a few online companies to which you can send the E.C.U. for testing which are very well priced.

Does anyone have any experience of any of them?

Might be worth double checking earths, power feeds etc before you send it off as I remember reading an interview with a guy that repairs them, he said that 60 or 70% he got in were fine and the real issue was connections
  • I've used Avilec on the Isle of Wight twice with serious ECU problems, both times repaired competently and the cars are still serving well.

They are not cheap, beware of some other companies that have impressive websites...i know of two who are not honourable and both incompetent...if you send your ecu to a company and they email/call you to tell you it's not repairable 'do you want the scrap ecu back'...make sure you get it returned (take notes of serial numbers etc before you send)...i don't need to expand on that i'm sure.

Also BBA reman are getting good feedback in the trade, i haven't used them but my excellent MB indy rates them and he's not easily impressed.

  • Used the Ecu-Doctor for repairs to my old Merc a couple of years ago. The repairs did not do the trick and i got my money back without discussion. Nice people they were all along.
  • Thanks for response everyone. It has been sent to ECU doctor. We are pretty sure it is the ECU. The coil went and according to several people in the know, this can take out the ECU too?!

I should add, it is my sisters Ford Focus. I have a wonderful old Merc 190e that has done 150k and never, ever let me down. I wouldn't be without it!

Will wait to hear what the ECU doctor has to say and hopefully sister will be back on the road.
  • Hi all, just to let you know that the ECU is back, car is going and we are all very happy! Will certainly recommend the ECU doctor. Even got a free hat and lighter.
  • ECU doctor all the way.
