See maybe thats it - I like technical - I like to understand why I am doing this session and not that session, I like to see the data and calculate my pace as I go round, I like to compare my splits over one long run to one a year ago - I need this stuff otherwise I cant tell if I have improved and more importantly what made me improve.

Running is both an art and science - theres an art form to training versus overtraining and a science in terms of the right training versus the wrong training.

I am odd, but I cant understand why someone wouldnt want to have all that knowledge (whether they apply is of course up to them)...thats why I dont understand such things (and RW is just as bad to me tbh), I am unique and I want my plan to be that way too - I do not want to be spoonfed things that may or may not work - I want to make a best guess based on knowledge, input and then analyse the output and feedback to the input...

Told you I was nuts ;)

But I like technical too! Just not all the time..I have the lore of running for that. I don't like runners world either tbh....

I nearly put myself off by trying to be too technical and trying to improve too early in my running career. I am much happier just putting my shoes on and running purely for the enjoyment. If I improve great, if not so what.

No not nuts just you becky. I on the other hand like to run, run as often as I like, occasionally do a race but feel no pressure to beat this time or that time. Of course Id secretly like to be faster but I simply don't have the time to put in the hours that you do to improve and I think it might put me off running for life

Some women don't have the confidence to interact in a mixed gender environment (lets not discuss the sociological/psychological reasons here) so a women only mag/site that enables them to go out and do something that makes them feel better about themselves can only be a good thing.

Also, women analyse and consider things in a different way/context, generally speaking, and it can be refreshing to discuss something without talking at cross purposes.

Also, women and men are anatomically diverse. The skeletal and muscular constructs are sufficiently different (how many men have to readjust posture/centre of balance after childbirth?) that it can be beneficial to train in different ways.

Surely a women only website is just saying 'we have things in common' and doesn't constitute a step backwards in socio political equalities?

Actually most elite women race in mens trainers - they are better designed - womens gear is generally utter crap sadly (it shouldnt be but they spend too much money on making it look good and not enough on making it work!)

And why shouldnt it lead to such a discussion - women had to fight bloody hard to be allowed to run marathons - I do not want to be forced back into that corner where I am weak pathetic women who can only run short distances because my body is 'different' (that it might be but only as different as one woman to another)

Its not a mutually exclusive choice. Both sides can be enjoyable. Those who are savvy will recognise the publication for what it is, those who want to be more serious will find more technical sources. It appears to be a way to get people started in the running world and all that technical stuff can be disconcerting ... a bit of pink fluff is just what some folks need to get started
