See now its not lunchie time I have a question on that website...
I think that women and men should be treated as equals, equal pay, equal opportunities etc obviously men and women are not the same, but I do not want to be treated differently merely on the basis that I am a women.
So why then do women need a womens only running website/mag? Isnt that just hypocritical to say well we want to be treated unequally in this but not in other stuff...
I dont 'get' the point of it as a concept and in fact I find it a bit condescending (especially because the website is all pink looking and girly),
Thats even leaving aside all my other less charitable thoughts about marketing gimics to cash in on women's desires to lose weight...dolling out faux 'advice' which is actually incorrect, and which seems to be backed up by the fact that a load of the staff of the magazine are newbie runners by their own admissions. I realise it isnt actually aimed at me so maybe I am missing the point here...
Some women don't have the confidence to interact in a mixed gender environment (lets not discuss the sociological/psychological reasons here) so a women only mag/site that enables them to go out and do something that makes them feel better about themselves can only be a good thing.
Also, women analyse and consider things in a different way/context, generally speaking, and it can be refreshing to discuss something without talking at cross purposes.
Also, women and men are anatomically diverse. The skeletal and muscular constructs are sufficiently different (how many men have to readjust posture/centre of balance after childbirth?) that it can be beneficial to train in different ways.
Surely a women only website is just saying 'we have things in common' and doesn't constitute a step backwards in socio political equalities?26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

So they want something inclusive that excludes half the population??
Sammy I dont read RW so I cant comment on the contents, I stick my head in the RW forums from time to time and find them mostly the blind leading the blind (especially the beginners section there)...
Dont you find it condescending though as a strong intelligent woman to have something 'marketed' at you because its pink and fluffly and friendly??
It is a bunch of cliches strung together. But then again, so is most marketing. Try reading a performance car mag sometime...
I think Sal might be thinking that men would be too aggressive in their approach - but that's another cliche too. And beside my irony alarm has gone off, so I'll have to stop...Men and women are different but they shouldnt be treated differently purely on the basis on gender (which is a social construct anyway - you only have to look at hermaphrodites to see how loose a biological distinction between male/female actually is)
You can always find overlap in gender - but actually gender is very weighted to the extremes with just tiny amounts of overlap. A sort of M profile if you will.

I personally don't give a rats !!!! if there are men only clubs that exclude women and women only clubs that exclude men. Thats life and sometimes we need time out from the opposite sex. If women don't want to join something that is aimed at only women then they won't join. As for the marketing...I didn't even notice it was pink and fluffy..and like sammy said I'll probably join and then read a few articles and then forget that I signed up :rotfl:just like I signed up for RW and fetch....think I should just stick to my spreadsheet:oI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....
