Thank you tootallulah, sounds like you have made significant inroads, I feel heartened that it can be done, but my confidence is so low at the moment that it feels impossible. Like you, I need to be in a position to be able to live debt-free in 9 years' time (eek, that's freeking me out!). By 'snowballing' do you mean prioritising all the debt? I have thought that I might try to live extremely frugally for a few years, just to get it down a bit - mightly hard when running a household - although I like your comment 'and live a life at the same time' because that's really the bottom line.

Awwww, Ninnins, I think you should buy yourself something pretty to cheer yourself up!! :D

    LOL, that was a JOKE!!!

But, joking aside thats exactly what I used to do! It was so easy to put it on the old 'never never' card. The enjoyment of buying something lasted usually until I got it home... then the SHAME crept up on me! the nauseating type that gives you the feeling of dread in your stomach. Then usually I would associate the new item with those feeling and go off it completely.... another item abandoned in my cupboard!

Didnt have to be clothes though... oh no, organic meat from a specialist butcher, fancy chairs from Ikea, cleaning products that would change my life, hobbies I took up on a whim... that I dont even have the time to do... the list goes on and on and on:rotfl:

I guess thats where the title of this thread came from, I thought after my LBM that it was done, im cured... wow that was easy!
    Its not though is it?
In fact is it ever done, cured, finished? when I am debt free all those old temptations will still be there wont they...
I could pay off my debts much faster if I got a £1 for everytime someone said to me "lifes short live for the moment" (which incidentally used to be my justification for my spending!)

    oh god I need therapy!!!!

:Tmendedmyways you must be my long lost twin, separated at birth! I had those association feelings, which made me hate the very item I was so desperate to have just a few days before hand ... guess what I used to do? I'd have a massive declutter, take it all down to the tip, and convince myself that this was therapeutic - it probably was at that split second, but then more feelings of guilt, remorse, shame, etc etc
The clothes were about reinventing myself - if I was unhappy, I would think that changing the outside would help. I got a bit better though, as instead of diving straight into the high-end range (Jigsaw, French Connection, Jones Bootmakers) I started experimenting with supermarket clothes, then when I was sure I wanted that 'look' I would go top-end shopping again! Oh, the energy, angst and wasted anxiety ...
  • I also wholeheartedly agree with Tootallulahs comment "and live a life at the same time"

it was the "same time" bit that was missing from my thinking.

I still live a life... as my last months budget will show if the takeaway/eating out section were to be scrutinised... I dont do that though as it still makes me want to kick the dog... ehhhh hum, i mean MYSELF

Hmm, I hate to admit it, but if I cut down on 'stuff' I could probably afford to 'do' a bit more ... but 'stuff' is immediate and tempting, therein lies the problem.

Hi Steerpiker! Thanks for reading my diary, be great to have you along for the journey!

It was fantastic finally getting the PPI back, in some ways I still cant believe I actually got them to pay out (It did actually take the handwritten letter in the end... money in account by following day)
Did you have a long struggle to get your PPI back?

Not really. The PPI was with Northern Rock, on a loan I took out in 2007! I wrote letters back then and forgot all about it. :rotfl:It was such a surprise to get the letter last month. I got £2424.

I downloaded 101 free books onto my iPhone***

The apps I use on it are amazing for keeping tabs on my accounts, expenses and I even have a brilliant snowball one.

It is my ipod, camera, Mp4 player, internet access and phone all rolled into one

I think of it as my only luxury! and I REALLY couldnt go back to being without it

    I heart my iPhone xxx

I am thinking of upgrading to an iphone, but just not convinced i NEED it. Now I see you've downloaded FREE books!!! I now NEED one! lol

Seriously though, can you really keep tabs on your accounts etc?

Plus as I never seem to be able to keep a diary, I really need a phone with a good organiser in it??

if you want someone to reality check you into not upgrading to one, well you have come to the wrong diary lol:D

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am starting a new job on Monday and don't possess a diary (though I do buy one at the start of every year *rolleyes*). I need to become super dooper organised, because of the job I have I will have lots of appointments and notes I need to make.

I think the iphone is for me :D:D:D

    (Especially the book bit lol)

    Thanks for persuading me ;)

    xx
