Coventry BS Log In

I've had an account with Coventry BS since 2007. Although the accounts have changed, I've always had the same security details. Tried to log on on Monday - had details written down next to computer - was told the details were wrong. There were several questions and I thought OK I could've made a typo mistake, so tried again - you can imagine how careful I was. But no, they said there was an error again. Changed browser and went through process again. Still an error they said and shut me out of my account and blocked phone calls.
I was furious and emailed them. Yesterday had reply to say I had entered my password wrongly three times and they would post me a form for new security details.
Well, my password is six letters long. It is a proper word and I am very familiar with it. Is it likely I would enter it wrongly three times after a warning?
They sent me an email saying they were sorry I did not like their on line procedure.
I will close the account as soon as I'm allowed access to it, but I wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience with the Coventry or any other BS?

Are their passwords case sensitive? Could you have been indavertently entering it in uppercase when it was expecting lowercase (or vice versa)?

Did you check that there were the correct number of *'s on the screen?

It could be that you have a dodgy key on your keyboard that's not working.

Yes, I had the same problem when I first attempted to login.
I know I entered the correct password but had to mess about with the new security details again.

I photocopied the form before I sent it back to them, just in case I had a problem with the new details.

    Not had a problem since.

A relative of mine couldn`t access because they asked for a grid card number/letter.
I`ve had an account with them for years but this is the first I`ve heard about them issuing gridcards.
    Does anyone else have one?

Yes - mine was sent to me on 7th January.

It's easy to use, but I don't like having to rely on it. I can remember all sorts of passwords by keeping hints, but the grid card could be mislaid and there's no way it could be memorised.

I suppose I could make a virtual copy of it although that might go some way to defeating the objective :undecided

Can you tell me what the Grid Card is exactly?
I log in using the ususal security details - letters from memorable name etc.

I sympathise with Gillan, but I have a rule in those circumstances. I never try it the third time, because if I'm sure that I got it right the second time, the third one is bound to fail also.

There is always a reason - and the fact is that their system was not receiving the correct password. I would never attempt it again before re-booting. I might also delete temporary files and cookies first, although I'm not sure whether that helps.

If I were Gillan I wouldn't abandon Coventry. They are much too useful and are very helpful if you phone them.

Mine is a grid with 'a' to 'j' along the top and 1 to 5 down the side filled with random numbers (0-9) and you are asked to enter the number in (say) b3 g1 and h5.

I think you will soon receive one as Coventry say -
Do I have to use a Grid Card?
Yes, if you have received a Grid Card you need to use it each time you log in or retrieve your Web ID. However you will no longer be asked for your memorable or favourite words.

Thank you all so much for your replies.
Evanasus, it makes me feel much better to hear you had the same problem. Unfortunately I've sent the form back without phtocopying, but good idea!
Barak, thanks for the sympathy and the tips. Yes, you are quite right about not trying the third time. Good thinking!
Also, it's true that they are helpful on the phone, usually, BUT I was blocked from using the phone to them. That's what made me so cross.
I wanted to close the account because of all the trouble with not being able to phone them and having to post back new security details, this taking several days when I needed to access my money. However I've calmed down now and will perhaps keep some money in there. Although Grid Cards sound a bit daunting. Hmm.
