Yes, you are quite right about not trying the third time. Good thinking!

When I had the logging in failure, I did ring Coventry before attempting a third. They weren't able to help with retrieving memorable data. They told me they couldn't do anything, other than send me a new security form to fill in.

Good idea Gillian, Coventry have had some great deals in the last couple of years. And they accept faster payments.

Thank you all so much for your replies.
Evanasus, it makes me feel much better to hear you had the same problem. Unfortunately I've sent the form back without phtocopying, but good idea!
Barak, thanks for the sympathy and the tips. Yes, you are quite right about not trying the third time. Good thinking!
Also, it's true that they are helpful on the phone, usually, BUT I was blocked from using the phone to them. That's what made me so cross.
I wanted to close the account because of all the trouble with not being able to phone them and having to post back new security details, this taking several days when I needed to access my money. However I've calmed down now and will perhaps keep some money in there. Although Grid Cards sound a bit daunting. Hmm.
I've just seen this thread. I've never heard of grid card either, but the Coventry are just about the best financial organisation I've ever dealt with. The bit about sending your security in the post is a bit unusual I thought, but hey ho it works ok.

I try to type as little as possible into banking websites, preferring instead to copy and paste words/codes in which are stored in KeePass. This allows you to click on the word/code in KeePass which copies it to the clipboard for about 12 seconds giving time to paste it into where you need it. The Clipboard is then cleared after 12 seconds (this can be changed to suit preference). Must admit it isn't terribly useful when someone like Coventry might ask for one of three memorable words!

Around a year ago I had problems. I tried once, got an error message (not a password incorrect type message), tried a second time same result, thinking it must be a problem with my chosen browser I tried a third time with another browser and got locked out. As far as I am aware I entered the correct details each time. I rang up and was told that there had been a technical problem at the time that had caught a few people but the only way out was to receive and return amended security details.

I am interested to hear about the grid cards. I was only aware that the Skipton BS was using these. What size are they?

I think you will soon receive one as Coventry say -
Do I have to use a Grid Card?
Yes, if you have received a Grid Card you need to use it each time you log in or retrieve your Web ID. However you will no longer be asked for your memorable or favourite words.
I wonder if the likes of Egg Money Manager will provide a way of entering the numbers on the grid card?

This thread prompted me to log in to Coventry (5 accounts, customer 4yrs) No problems, no mention of grid cards.
    Am I suffering discrimination?
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

If you are bryanb, then so am I. ;)

I'd like to know what this Rapport security download is too.

    First Direct are toting Rapport.

I'd like to know how long before a vulnerability is discovered in it!

I installed Rapport as recommended by Coventry BS.I was concerned that if I was a victim of fraud and hadn't installed it I would be held responsible. However, I haven't activated it for online accounts other than Coventry BS. I haven't noticed any problems so far. Others have. I wouldn't have installed it if I had seen the following thread first.

Maybe this warrants a thread of it's own, but as I saw the following on the Coventry BS website today in their guide to logging on to online services, so this seems like a good place:-

    Account Aggregation Services
If you pass your Security Details on to an account aggregation or money manager service please be aware that you may be liable for any fraud or mistakes that happen on your accounts as a result. You may also find that these services block your access to our Online Services.
We strongly recommend that you only ever access your Coventry account(s) by entering your Security Details directly into our website.

Could this include pssword manager or passcode protected database prpgrams like KeePass?? I'm guessing so as the impending issue of their grid card will negate the use of such a program for Coventry BS.

I do use KeePass to keep all my account login details on. So many, I haven't a hope of remembering them.
I don't though, use the facility to automatic logins. I only ever enter the web page into the browser manually.
