Hey i'm looking for a new laptop without spending too much on it so i'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I'm hoping that it'll be powerful enough to run the new football manager game smoothly so any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

What is your budget? <£300 is possible but may not be able to play fancy 3d games...
A decent netbook (no cd) with screens around 8-13" in size are between £170-250.0 -
eBuyer has an Extra Value laptop for £299, but no operating system. You can get Windows 7 from ebuyer from £72.36 or XP Home for £68.0

thanks for the replies, i'm thinking of around the 400/500 price range, would prefer if it had a cd rom for dvds etc. and hopefully be quite a fast running machine, any ideas?0

with £400-500 you can get a quite a decent laptop... they are so cheap these days!
Cheapest, but most powerful for less than £400 would be the extra value laptop on ebuyer with windows 7.. £299.99 + £75 for windows 7... The spec is excellent and probably could not be beaten.
With a clean install of windows 7 means no crapware pre-installed from dell / Acer etc and importantly no system hogging Norton / McAfee software pre-installed ready to take over your laptop...
I would install Windows 7, then the install drivers from the CD that come with the laptop then install Comodo Internet Security which is combined Anti-Virus and Firewall and is free for life.
Comodo is not the best Anti-Virus, but its pretty good.. an alternative is install Avast Anti-Virus AND Comodo Firewall (unselect comodo Anti-Virus when you install)... this is prob the best protection (not all your eggs in the same basket!).
Hope this helps.

Cheers for the advice, is the laptop good quality as i have previously been advised to get a toshiba as they were very reliable. In relation to security I don't mind paying for security which is going to work, any further advice would be greatly appreciated0

At £500, I would expect minimum spec:
Dual Core Processor (eg T6600 etc)
4Gb DDR3 RAM
500Gb HDD (could settle for 320) make sure it's SATA
512Mb Graphics (Nvidia or ATI)
Windows 7
Probably DVD RW
At £600 - £800 I would try for this (but you would have to look out for bargains)
Quad Core Processor (eg I5 or I7)
4Gb DDR3 RAM
500Gb HDD make sure it's SATA
1Gb Graphics (Nvidia or ATI)
Windows 7
DVD RW & BD (player only)0 -
what about for 400 supermonkey?0
