My cat died suddenly.....new friend for remaining cat?

Hi
I moved house 3 weeks ago and the day after we moved my 2 year old cat died suddenly on my knee......extremely traumatic- I went to pieces. He had taken the move well and was happily purring on my knee, then suddenly had a fit and died...all over in seconds........devastated does not cover it! Rushed to emergency vet who said without a post mortem would not know for sure but he said he sees it a lot in big cats (he was a big long legged ginger ) that probably a clot dislodged.
I have stopped crying every time I think of him now (although I am in floods again now!)
Question is......I still have his brother and wondered
1)how long I should wait before getting another cat (mickey is 2 and I dont want him to be alone)
2) opinions of whether I should get a kitten or cat of similar age? Remaining cat was the dominant one but is a bit of a 'mummy' lol carries his favourite soft toy to bed!
Should I wait longer for the stress of the move/loss of his brother to pass?
thanks in advance

Aw I'm really sorry to hear that as Orbit went at home with me looking on helplessly.I could'nt even stay indoors the day he died & I buried him in the back garden that Friday morning.
I went to the ASSISI Animal Sancturary the very same day &,the following Tuesday I had Daisy Cat,a three year old b&w headcase!
Getting Daisy so soon after helped me immensly in getting over my bud &,although it was a few weeks before I stopped bubbling up with tears,Daisy was a great comfort.
Put it like this,as someone explained it to me,He may be gone over to Rainbow Bridge, but in his passing he has given a homeless cat a better chance at life.
Big hugs to you & thoughts for your sad loss.
Take care,

Oh im sooo sorry to hear about poor puss..i read a poem on here once about a "dogs will"..saying that he has nothing to leave ina will, but a loving home, comfy bed, full food bowl etc and that a dog from a shelter would love that! Perhaps there is a cat in a shelter that your puss would like to leave his home and bed to?
sorry if this makes you cry again...it did me!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
thank you both, yes am crying again now!
My first choice would be a rescue cat and I have been looking at photos all morning!
Only concern is what would be best for mickey...... I dont want to stress him out more than he has been....and still unsure about kitten or cat.......I guess I need to go look !YNWA JFT96 :A0 -
If you are anywhere near Cheshire, there is a cat on this board that is desperate for a good home.
I am so sorry for your loss.0 -

((((hugs)))) Why not post over on Purrsinourhearts 'Rainbow Bridge' board in memory of your furbaby, and then have a chat with the many rescuers who post on there about how long you should wait?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Oh I am so sorry for your loss, what a dreadful experience for you.
As regards getting another cat...it is a tricky one. Some cats actually relish being the only animal in the house, whereas others will long for a play mate of their own age.
As FF says, you could post on Purrs, or I am sure that a good local rescue will be able to advise you on the personalities of any of their rescue cats/kittens.0 -
When my cat died my other cat spent ages trying to find her - in the end got another cat after 3 months, and then had him for 18 years!! When he died I was so upset swore blind I wouldnt go through that again - but look at me now a cat came and had kittens in the garden and I've ended up having another!! Wouldnt change it for the world she has made such a difference in our house (two big teenagers who've gone all soppy of her!!!)2010 has got to be better than the last two years!! :rotfl:
Weight loss to date: 3 Stone & 5lbs!! Weight loss this week: 2 lbs !!:j0 -
thank you all for your kind messages.
It's sad to watch him walk around looking for his brother.....keeps crawling under kitchen unit where he last saw tigga!YNWA JFT96 :A0 -
oh thats so sad..... I lost a kitten recently, only a baby, but its devestating.
I would say if you're going to get another kitty then get a younger one, then he'll still feel like he's the boss! and what about a little girl? might be nice for him to have a girl friend?!!
Big hugs for you xxx :ABe who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0
