Warm Front has gone cold

 How many people have followed the advice of contacting Warm Front in
the last 3 months?

 How many have been seen?

 How many have been offered a heating repair?

 How many of these heating repair offers have had a heating installer
allocated and been out to see you?

I have heard of people being seen in September still waiting to be allocated an installer. I know of people seen in December still waiting for an installer. I also know people who applied in December still waiting for their initial visit to approve the grant. (if your offered an appointment-grab it)

Once an installer has been allocated it then takes months for the approval of the quote by the company running the scheme.

The scheme changes for the 'better' from May this year, but anyone not assessed before then will have to wait even longer. as the staffing levels drops, and the amount the new assessors have to see each day is also lowered by 30%.

Which Money saver has been waiting the longest?

I had my assessment this week, no more than a fortnight after applying.

Chap was very helpful and I will be getting insulation and draught proofing.

  • It was nearly a year from contacting them to getting central heating fitted in my disabled brother's house. But he is happy now it's done, he's loving the luxury.

My mum did a lot of the phoning and chasing for him as he doesn't like phones. She had to be persistent. They came out with some nonsense about waiting for parts from a particular supplier. She pointed out she orders plumbing parts from said supplier and knows they have a 24 hour turnaround. Suddenly they found they "did have the parts after all."

The people who qualify for help through warm front are, by definition, disabled, elderly, or have a vulnerable person in the family who needs an adequate level of heating.

Leaving these people with NO heating through one of the coldest winters in living memory is something that people certainly SHOULD complain about. Warm Front gets government money and gives an appalling and shoddy service in return.

I am disabled, with limited mobility and often bedbound. My boiler broke down two years ago in December, I had no heating or hot water until it was finally replaced the following April. Unfortunately the fitters caused hundreds of pounds of damage in the process by leaving an upstairs radiator valve unscrewed which only came to light when water came through the ceiling. The boiler that they did fit had a faulty pump from day one and kept breaking down. The pump was finally replaced after 9 months of problems. This winter the boiler broke down again, less than 2 years old, and had to have a new sensor fitted - the fitter told me it is a known problem with these boilers. The boiler concerned is Ideal Standard - which is part owned by Eaga, who manage warm front.

I believe everyone should raise these issues, otherwise this company will just carry on ripping off the tax payer at the expense of the people it is supposedly set up to help.

(Okay, I'll get down off my soap box now)

I too have had my boiler break down, in the first week of fitting, it blew 2 boards & needed new valves & all sorts. I think it took about 3 weeks of engineers coming out before it worked for more that a couple of days at a time. I'm now waiting for another new part, & have been shown how to re-pressurise it to keep it going. This they tried telling me how to do over the phone. I wouldn't do it, maybe that's a waste of money, however I wanted someone qualified to look at it to find out why it had lost pressure & started leaking.
I was grateful to have it fitted free, however, due to the boilers that are being used I think that it's a case of pay cheap pay twice. The amount of extra money that's now been spent on engineers & spare parts a better boiler could have been installed in the first place for less money.

We are getting help from warm front but not getting it for free. we didnt know we could get some help untill we asked, so serch about there are loads of different grants availble in different parts of the country.

Failing that i would gladly chew off my arm and give you 5 cheap radiators to make time go back and life not change for us, alot that have been able to take advantage of the warm front grants would echo my offer, never assume your getting a raw deal untill you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes :)

If it's a new boiler it should of come with some kind of manufacturers warranty. Contact the manufacturer. Should not have to pay any money imo.

The problem is that although people like us can carry out work under the Scrappage scheme, we cannot do boiler replacements under the WarmFront scheme, although we can do repairs (up to £300 value) which is a ridiculous state of affairs.
I see on the Warmfront website there is a waiting list of up to 6 months, but as we know (although not applying to us) there are many engineers who need the work of changing boilers and would do a perfectly good job for less than the grant allowed, so giving them work and saving the taxpayers money!
