Hi all, am reading but not posting due to a stinking cold... but good to see you are keeping your spirits up :T - it's contagious.
(So is the cold, but obviously not as powerfully so as I've never yet heard of anyone who got one off a forum).

  • Hi Mike, i have just read your thread from start to finish and just wanted to say i am really rooting for you and i hope that horrible man gets his !!!! kicked by the courts and justice prevails!!!
I agree with you that the legal system is absolutely ridiculous and actually seems to condone this behaviour as acceptable
We lost 25k to a builder a couple of years ago, had paid deposits for two off plan apartments that he was building .....lo and behold he goes bankrupt and has a massive bankloan that has to get paid with the proceeds of the sale (secured creditor), us and over a hundred other people who were unsecured creditors lost every penny.
To be honest i cant allow myself to dwell on it because it makes me soo angry. I really smpathise with you because of the profound effect it has had on your mental and physical health and can really understand how it eats away at you.
Just to say Mike as someone else who has been a victim of these p*** takers i really really really hope that this story has a happy ending and will be watching with interest :D:D

Although I am very sorry you lost money, in a way it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only person that this has happened to.

I feel very silly when it's discussed actually. But in my defence, he was such a nice bloke and seemed utterly OK. I'm not daft, but it's always possible to be taken in. As I said previously, I would do it again if I was in that situation. I didn't really suspect him of anything and I needed a builder and a friend said he was OK. Maybe I'm not stupid, and this was just a very unfortunate event. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thank you for posting this anyway. I'll do what I can. I have anger about him but it will have to wait until I've done everything anyone can do to get the money he owes me.

I've learned a lot so far but it's not anything I wanted to learn!

I watched the programme on BBC1 tonight about people who were jobless. They didn't do anything wrong. It's a numbers game usually. But I felt the couple (the Vollers) felt the embarrassment and stigma most of all the couples. People like them never had to face this stuff in the past. I admired the wife for going out to form a business out of what she was good at, and admire the husband for getting a job minicabbing. It's not about 'them' anymore, it's about 'us'.

I've also learned over the past few weeks on here that some people think I have something going for me. I've never been very sure of that, certainly not since the depressive episodes began. It's a huge change and it came from all the people here backing me up.
