Sky Cost Reduction
Comments

I have called Sky twice now, stating both times we wanted to cancel because the costs were too much. We have been with them for 10 years and both times they refused to offer anything. I really stood my ground and asked what offers there were, but he only offered the HD box.
any tips? I don't really want to leave as we have free broadband with them...but we definitely need to reduce our monthly costs on TV
thanks!!0 -
I didn't get this offer either. Rang up to cancel last friday about 6.30pm was told theres no point becaus ei want get broadband, phone line & calls anywhere for less than £30-£40 so i might aswell just cancel my sports package even though i explained well thats actually what is watched the most. The person drove me mad just not listening int he end i said i'd give it a thought and call back because he was making it so difficult for me to cancel :mad:0

I kept repeating we wanted to cancel but he would not offer anything. He suggested we cut our packages which we probably will in the end, but I thought I'd try and see if we could keep everything and get a deal!!
I also mentioned we could get a similar package elsewhere for cheaper and he kept repeating that Sky was the best (and I said, well...you have to say that)
I might try again........persistence might pay off - anyone else done this?0 -
We have tried this in the past but it has never paid off. I may get DH to ring again and see what they say now, wont speak to me as SKY is is Dh's name, so worth a try as nothing to lose as we don't really want to cancel so any offer will be a bonus.

Exactly the same response as i was getting0 -
There seems to be no dice with this at the moment, Ive often got deals when I have rung up to cancel and been talked out of it. 30 mins of frustration the other night ended up with me logging my notice period - still theyve had me for three years more than I wanted!0

There is a guide about haggling with SKY from an insider somewhere on MSE but the problem is lately SKY dont need to fight for custom like they once did. People are falling overthemselves in droves to sign up to SKY+HD and they know it. As pointed out in some of the above posts they will calll your bluff cause they know the next phone call they get is from somebody who is signing upto a £40+ deal. They do offer the 1/2 price SKY movies to calm the natives who think they have just got a cracking deal until they find their phone call has just seen the payments they wanted to reduce, climb by another £8 month. Until FreeviewHD and Freesat mature more SKY+HD is the monopoly.Credit card and overdraft at 18. 2 loans and 3 storecards at 20. University education flushed down the toilet through debt at 22. Car finance at 23. Car repossessed at 24. Rock bottom at 25. Learnt my lesson 26-33. Now 34 with a mortgage on an affordable house, a car paid for with cash and a bank account in credit. I learnt the hard way.0

Just got of the phone from Sky, after a long winded process I eventually asked what discount they would give me for staying with them and was granted 20% for 6 months, so all, be brave and ask for the discount it worked for me (when I eventually got around to it)
Good luck0
