Motability good value?

Thought I would just let you know that when I was ringing around for insurance that companies would give me full now claimes bonus as long as I had not had a claim on my mobility insurance. They even did the same for my partner who was a named driver on my car. All you have to do is ask and they give it well all the ones I asked did.
I have been told the same by a insurance company too. (Direct Line)
Phone up for a quote and tell them you are a ex motability and they will adjust the no claims accordingly. Unfortunatly there are no options to do this online so you dont have the option of cashback or online discounts.0 -
Hi,
As code-a-holic say's you can't do this online you do have to ring them and i rang around a lot and I would say 9 out of the 10 let you have no claimes when you said you were ex mobility. In fact my partner had to get a work van and his company even gave him FULL no claimes for being on my mobility car.
Please don't think you lose your no claims and before looking into this check with some insurance companies first. I could not afford the running cost and everything else involed with having my own car. This scheme is a great deal as all I have to pay for is fuel. I know some are saying you don't own the car but at the end of the day you don't have all the stress that this would invole either.
I also find that getting a new car every three years and that fact that if you look after your car you get £200 good condition bonus is a god send. Thanks for any help and advice given

I dont see the problem tbh, every 3 years in exchange for £47 you get a brand new car which all you have to do is put petrol in,seems extremely good value
Well its £52 per week to pay for a car thats not yours........Alot of new cars you need £1500 first payment down then £52 per wk for 3 years , when the agreement is up its been taken away on a low loader or you have a choice of buying for for a lot extra than the car is worth or having a new car again trapped into another 3 year loan,,,,you have to keep the mileage down I do believe under 45 thou, and when they do an inspection on the car condition you may have super market dinks in the paint work its seems a lot of worry to have when its only leased.
I think to pay £208.00 per month is a lot of money for a car that you will never own. Yes you get free breakdown recovery but that only mounts to £72 per year , Yes you get free car insurance but if you already have high NCD then on a car not motobility you would probaly get ins for £300..... road tax free for all HRM .
Perhaps someone out there will be able to explain to me is......why when you get a DLA benefit rise in April each year motability take that extra, and you have 3 benefit rises in the car agreements life time they take all of the rise,, you would think that if you sign into the 3 year agreement that they wouldnt be able to take any benefit rises that you get ..???
To me that is expensive motoring but its a personal choice. It probaly suit a lot of people fine, but count up how much money is going out each year and its scary:eek:
Ive got a 03 Picasso that does 56 per gallon diesel, 49 thou on the clock, reliable takes the wheelchair no problem and its paid for , thats the relief I get not being tied into HP, and I use it to travel long hospital journeys and local hospital , ive got breakdown cover that suits us fine.

My daughter is on HRM, how do we go about getting the free car tax??
Only works if she is a wheelchair or stretcher user and has "permanent and substantial adaptions to her car". (Does it need a spanner to fit)

The board won't let me post a link as I am "a newbie" :-(

The car has to be used solely for her purpose eg go to shops etc for her or with her in car but not for other issues that is not for her benefit. Call up DLA and ask for certificate re tax exemption making car tax disabled.
No you dont have to be a chair user just get high DLA mobility.0 -

You can get a mondeo, focus, mazda 6 and 5, nissan qaishai and some other 'large/mpv' cars for less than £500 AP. Some like an astra there is no AP.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

True there are strong arguments for and against for going for a mobility car. In my case it all depends on how much finance have you got to buy a car.
If you can afford to buy a low mileage newish car then go for it if you do a low annual mileage.
If like me you have a limited funds and can only afford £3-4k for a car then you are limited to older or a high mileage cars which can need repair work in the near future. Before someone argues cars are more reliable etc remember that some cars are fitted with dual mass flywheels (diesels mainly) which can cost over £500 to repair. The clutches are prone to wear early if not treated properly. Then there are cambelt changes which needs changing etc, it all adds up.
True it is offputting that one is paying over £7k and not have anything to show for it then again if you add any extra servicing etc you mayy be better off on mobility.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way
