    Do chickens really eat doughnuts?

As for what to do with them now, doughnuts actually make really good sponge in trifle.

    What's a leftover doughnut? Preposterous idea! ;)

Oh yes! Chickens eat just about anything (everything). It is suggested that chicken keepers don't give them leftovers with meat scraps in case it encourages feather pecking, but if they are free range it doesn't seem to occur. I recall (from a previous life) one of my hens scuttling about with a small dead mouse, with the others in hot pursuit. I doubt that she had actually caught it herself, just came across it lying there probably, or she stole it from the cat.

If you don't want to use them staight away, they do freeze well for about 2/3 week's, that's the longest I'v put them in for[pair of ganett's in house]

I freeze doughnuts. They seem to keep fine for a few months (I had a couple I'd forgotten about). Usual cautions apply if someone eating them is in frail health for other reasons - but I've never had any problems.
  • Scotslass that sounds worth a try.

How about an egg instead of the evap or custard?

As both 'leftover doughnuts' threads are now on the front page of Old Style, I have merged them together to avoid confusion.
