  • My kitchen is always stuffed full - of ingredients.

Very empty on the snack front.
    Put the kettle on. ;)

It sounds to me as if you are operating very efficiently. You have stuff to make a meal, you don't want snacky things kicking around and it's working for you. Stuff isn't going to go off and be wasted. I envy you!

Thanks :D definately not wasting like I used to and my weight is VERY slowly coming down.. Now I need to work on cutting down the amount of ice-cream I have in the freezer

My fridge is the same, apart from the usual milk, butter, cheese, eggs, condiments (yes, I keep them in the fridge) there's usually some fruit and my meal for that day. My freezer is stuffed full though as I tend to cook from that and cupboards. If anyone looked in my fridge they'd probably think I didn't eat!

Just wonder if anyone else has an empty fridge/cupboards, even just after shopping now half my fridge is empty because I am not buying snacks etc.. no processed meats, sausage rolls, crisps, bikkies and cakes... so apart from basics/storecupboard, and fruit and veg and the little meat I buy my cupboards but especially my fridge looks pretty pathetic... in fact sometimes it looks like I haven't shopped at all.. just the milk , butter, cheese and fruit and veg in there... I have friends whose fridges are stuffed to the gunwales..

Maybe I should buy a smaller fridge next time:rotfl:

Sounds like you have cut out the rubbish - well done.
  • I've never had so little money before in my life and my fridge is stuffed. Not a morsel of pre-prepared stuff, no shop-bought snacks and treats. I've got altogether too much time on my hands so I'm cooking from scratch and it's great. When I was working I'd barely have a couple of evening meal options to choose from and now I've got loads: two kinds of HM soup, some felafel patties, aubergine parmigiana, a couple of pizza bases, about six different kinds of cheese, veggies, all sorts. Plus of course some of Twinks HobNobs which I'm getting through at a rate of knots.

My fridge is half empty a lot of the time - I mainly buy tinned and frozen veg as it is cheaper than fresh and I eat very little meat! Mainly dairy products and a few condiments in there - have used up two jars of chutney this week.

  • Mine is exactly the same, only dairy products, some veggies, condiments and lots of eggs in there but I know I can feed us for at least a few weeks on the food in the freezer and cupboards, they are full to bursting with ingredients and HM ready meals. Oh, I know what else is in the fridge, seeds and wine making yeast and some of my home brewed wine, maybe I should stock it up with more wine. hmm....

I don't keep many snack type things as I'd rather have a meal and I don't nibble at all.My biscuit /cake lock and lock boxes usually have stuff in them for the grandchildren when they arrive but even then its stuff I have baked myself. My fridge usually holds stuff like milk, butter, eggs.salad, fruit veg and a couple of jars of pickles/mayo stuff.Well done for resisting processed food, I rarely eat it myself as I like to know whats going in to my food. Why have a cupboard full of stuff just for looking at. Its money sitting there, and not economical to have too much food just sitting in the cupboards.I do my best to try to see if I have it in the cupboard first or if not can I substitute it for something else before I go and buy any more stuff.Lightbulb moment last September when I realised how much in the way of cash was just sitting in my cupboards.I'd rather have it in my bank account than in a tin of beans
Sounds like you are a very good shopper and extremely OS ,take a pat on the back
  • Im exactly like you tanith. Infact i bought the smallest fridge/freezer i could get. Theres only two of us and at first i found it a struggle because i kept buying too much frozen food. But i soon adapted. My fridge is also only filled up with eggs, butter, cheese, ham and bacon. I store all my fruit and veg in the fridge too along with tons of yoghurts. I also store opened condiments in there. I stopped buying sausage rolls, pasties etc as they are so easy to consume without knowing it, open the fridge and grab a snack. So now i leave ready prepared fruit (my only prepared luxury) in the sealed plastic tubs right in the front so i can grab them instead.

Im the same ....being single it mostly consists of a piece of cheddar, a few day old bag of salad and a bottle of mint sauce:o

However top tip here.......wine boxes take up loads of room and where most people put numerous large bottles of milk I find vodka and baileys fit perfectly and you can always fill any gaps with some bottles of red bull. Never let it be said I don't keep my fridge energy efficient:):)
