Embarrassed by my empty fridge/cupboards

  • So I'm not the only one with Empty-Fridge-Syndrome :)

Freezer is pretty much full, ditto cupboard with dried/tinned goods but the fridge is definately the poor relation in my kitchen.

Some great ideas on this thread to use the space - I don't buy salad at the moment as its too expensive so will be moving my Aldi & Lidl 'Super 6's' in there & the bread too. Little fridge will look a lot more loved! :rotfl:

My fridge always seems half full of jars of pickles and chutneys and jams - why do so many preserves need refrigeration nowadays?
My freezer is full of batch-cooked meals as I work full-time with a long commute and make meals that I can take out of the freezer in the morning and have with fresh veggies. I make a salad twice a week for lunch so I have a big plastic tub in the fridge too. I buy small amounts of fresh fruit and veg almost every day so there's not much of that in the fridge unless it's "salad-making day"

It's very interesting to see what others have. I hope to gradually use up the chutneys - i have some duplicates as my fridge was over-full and i bought and opened new ones because i couldn't see the old ones. DUH!

Another for the empty fridge brigade :D
I usually have milk, butters (for toast and for baking), cheese, sauces, a bottle of wine in case of surprise guests and anything thats defrosting!!
My freezer and cupboards are a different matter entirelly :o. I find it easier (for us) it I cook and freeze HM meals which can be heated up quickly and always have a stuffed to bursting baking cupboard so I can fling things together at a moments notice!
Thinking about it - I probably have a considerable smaller kitchen that most which means I have less cupboard space and only have 3 cupboards in which food it kept (1 for cereals and biscuits, 1 for baking things and 1 for sauces, herbs, pasta, oils and this one is also shared with cups, glasses, teapot etc)

I meal plan, use lists, and always have a stock cupboard/freezeer yet my fridge still contains:- yoghurts (up to 12 at a time as we go through a lot and I tend to get them once a week at most!), berries for DJ, marg (the one I use is out, this is the second one), cooking butter, lard, fruit juice, Cravendale (1 in use plus 0-2 depending on what day it is!), Cheese (cheddar, soft, parmesan, mozzarella), opened tomato/garlic puree, jars/opened condiments, veg, meat (often removed from freezer for defrosting and using next day), eggs not in use (have one box at room temp which in current use and store 2nd box in fridge), cold meat, tomatoes (always go furry on work surface!), salads, other odds and sods that are needing used/being defrosted for use (eg HM pastry).
