Embarrassed by my empty fridge/cupboards

Just wonder if anyone else has an empty fridge/cupboards, even just after shopping now half my fridge is empty because I am not buying snacks etc.. no processed meats, sausage rolls, crisps, bikkies and cakes... so apart from basics/storecupboard, and fruit and veg and the little meat I buy my cupboards but especially my fridge looks pretty pathetic... in fact sometimes it looks like I haven't shopped at all.. just the milk , butter, cheese and fruit and veg in there... I have friends whose fridges are stuffed to the gunwales..

Maybe I should buy a smaller fridge next time:rotfl:

My cupboards are packed full of sauces/vinegars/condiments and spices, rices, pastas, baking stuff.

My fridge is full of Vegetables, fruit, beers, wines, cheeses, butter, margarine, eggs, milk, juices, half opened this and that.

I have an American style fridge/freezer and i stand and wonder how i can make more room!

My freezer though is pretty bare, i have the odd meal ive made and then frozen, but generally i buy things fresh so not much gets frozen.

Hello Tanith, I also put loafs of bread in my fridge. I buy between 4/6 loafs at a time for the family. How about bottles of water so you no longer have to run the tap for a cold drink?

My freezer is very empty! I am defrosting it today to give to a friend.
I have decided to buy a new frost free freezer A rated. I decided to splash out as sometimes you need to spend first to save.

I dont buy anything processed or ready made if possible - so sometimes my fridge is pretty bare. I know that i can make a meal in an instant with the contents of the freezer and storecupboard though.

As long as it works for you - carry on regardless

  • If your fridge or freezer isn't full (not over full and stuffed!) it won't be running economically. Fill your freezer with loaves of cheap bread and your fridge with bottles of tap water to make them efficient.

My freezer is pretty full as I to make from scratch with storecupboard things its just whenever I open my fridge it looks bare.. I suppose its not necessarily a bad thing .. it means I am not snacking on stuff or throwing it away..

I feel the same Tanith. My groceries will be delivered tomorrow afternoon and my fridge will still look quite empty. I no longer buy ready made food where possible but always have the ingredients to make things like sausage rolls, pasties etc. Even make my own egg mayo sandwich filler these days!
Can't decide whether its more economic to continue with my current 'too big' fridge freezer, or change it for a much smaller one! Mine is in perfect condition...just too big for me nowadays!:o

I don't buy any processed foods either but my fridge is always pretty full of fresh ingredients and things I've made. I'm not sure why not buying processed foods should make your fridge empty. Surely it depends on how many people you are catering for.

    In my fridge today

hard cheese, parmesan, gruyère, cream, hm yogurt, butter, lard ,milk, bacon, ham, smoked mackerel, eggs (lots).

Carrots, salad, mushrooms, avocados, celery, peppers, parsnips, lemons, grapes.

Leftover soup, leftover spiced butter, leftover salad, mayonnaise, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, ground coffee, amontillado sherry, tomato puree, rhubarb and apple compote and some chocolate brownies.

The freezer's running a bit low but my cupboards are full.

I am only buying for two now it was three, but I used to have one shelf filled with ready made things and now I make them and eat them mostly on the same day.. I don't make large quanities as I am a pig and if its there I will pick and pick so I try to not have leftovers..unless I can freeze it in which case its not in the fridge but the freezer... I have two large salad trays at the bottom full with veg and salad so two shelves are practically empty.. alll my jams pickles relishes and milk cheese and butters fit in the door...

It sounds to me as if you are operating very efficiently. You have stuff to make a meal, you don't want snacky things kicking around and it's working for you. Stuff isn't going to go off and be wasted. I envy you!

Hello. My fridge is always quite empty but my freezer is BURSTING this week.

In my fridge, I have a few salad things, butter, little bit of veg (I keep frozen veg in the freezer), milk, a few sauces and yoghurt.

My cupboards are full of tins, more sauces and herbs.

I would rather my fridge be a little empty - I hate throwing food out at the end of the week.
