Contract ending, need your help guys!

As the title says really. I'm with Vodafone and my contract is up early March. Usually by this time I already know what phone I want, and have a back-up incase I can't get it. However, I've been so busy that I haven't had any time to research phones.

So, here I ma asing for help. I ONLY need your advice on mobile phones, not tarrifs and the like.
Currently have Nokia N95 8gb and think it's great. So would really want one that has the same functionality but perhaps a little better.

Really appreciate this guys:beer:

  • What 'functionality' do you really make use of on your N95 8GB? Camera, music, web, GPS, etc or is it more a case of a general all-rounder you need?

Also, are you for or against the idea of a touchscreen only phone? Many of the higher spec devices don't or have a keypad or now come with a slide out QWERTY which is not to everyone's liking.

Personally, I'm holding out for the newly announced HTC phones, the Legend or Desire, which should hopefully be released Mar/Apr time.

  • Hi Randomtask, I pretty much use everything, music isn't a biggy to me, but I am a huge internet user and texter. All my mates have the Iphone but I can't say it does anything for me. Seen a pic of the N97 which looked ok. I am seriously stuck:o

Try sony w995 in the shop.
I had the n95 and apart from fault with screen, it was just too fragile. If you like sliders, then the w995 might suit. Touch screen phones are awful for texting imho.
  • The N97 has been plagued by problems with the software and is a little large for my liking. The N97 is reportedly better though the keypad might be a bit too small.

For slide out keyboards, the Motorola Droid is very well regarded. It has a 4 line keyboard compared to the 3 on the N97 and the larger keys should make it easier to text.

Oneaday: I've had a look at at the W995, it does seem to have all the features I would like but, personaly I think it is a little on the ugly side- sorry

Randomtask: would you say the N97 mini is too small to get the best use out of it. And what is the HTC brand- never heard of them?

Just missed a call from Vodafone, presumable they are going to try an offer me something. Really need to have an idea of a phone, so I can see if I can get.

What about Blackberries- are they any good?
    Thanks so far guys:T
  • Depends what you use.....Internet for what? Facebook?

Iphone is the king.....easy to text, good internet, lots of good apps that work well for things such as nationalrail, facebook, ebay, skype.

Holds all your pictures & music, links your email accounts, can provide you with thousands of games....the list is endless

    Blackberries - complicated!! Very complicated!

Have a look at the HTC Hero (won mobile of the year last year) it does all that an iphone can do for a fraction of the cost... its also multi tasks as well.
TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS
  • Hughesy84- yeah I mainly use it for facebook, check my email (as I can't access it at work) google, ebay, and come on here and hotukdeals. Couple of my friends have the Iphone and they rave about it, don't hink I would manage with the cost. Currently only spend £30 per month for 600 mins, unlimited texts and internet for 18 months.
As for Blackberries- thanks for that, I really cannot be bothered with something if it cimplicated.

N20Y1D: Just had a lok at the hero, it doesn't look bad. Is it a step up from what I already have? Don't like the idea of going backwards haha

    Cheers guys
  • think about the HTC Legend which should come out very soon - an updated Hero with unibody aluminum design (like the new macbook laptop). Looks very nice from the photos I've seen online and packs pretty decent specs, an OLED screen and runs HTC's Sense UI over Android 2.1 - basically an advanced OS with Apps, multi-touch and good multimedia functions in a highly customisable and easy to use interface.

Whether you can text as well on it is questionable, but it will do internet pretty well. Should be in your price range given your existing contract.
