  • Hi Guys,

Congratulations on your success with reclaiming this money from Egg!! I am also currently pursuing a claim against Egg for unfair selling of PPI. I sent the letter off and got the standard template reply to this. Then on Monday I got a second letter stating that they are still investigating my claim and asking me to wait for a further 4 weeks for them to make a decision or I could go to the FOS.

The claim relates to a loan from June 2005 that I have about 14 months of repayments left on. I just looked at my online account for the loan and noticed that the amount of debt left to pay had dropped by 400.00 GBP today - they have removed the PPI repayments. In anyones experience does this mean they have made a decision, or is it just standard practice when a customer makes a PPI compaint?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there

Personally I would ring them about this to make sure.
I assumed you would have to have agreed first before they do anything, so do contact them and check.

Normally they have 8 weeks in full to respond, then if they don't or if they do not resolve in your favour then you can of course move on to the FOS.

Hope this helps, please keep us posted.:);)

I would write and explain that you have not agreed to anything as yet and that if your complaint is one for misselling then you will only accept the amount that puts you back into the position as if you never had the PPI. (and 8% statutory interest on top). Egg DO repay back to loan a lot and loads have tried to get this paid over to themselves and I think some posters have said they have overturned this IF they have never had any arrears on the account. After all you have been deprived of that money to do as you please with.
  • Thanks for the quick responses!

It seems that Egg have cancelled the PPI from my loan as of today, and that the reduction in the loan amount reflects this cancellation of the policy. It does not amount to Egg admitting resposibility for mis-selling (as of yet), just a cancellation as a result of my claim.

Is this normal? By cancelling it from my loan account do you think it would also suggest that they may be about to admit liability and make me an offer for the mis-selling of the policy in the first place?

Also one last question - there is a secure messaging facility on my account. Would you use this or continue to use hard copy post, which I have done up to now.

    Hi there

I agree with Marshallka here and write to them to tell them they have gone ahead without you agreeing or even signing anything for that matter.
I would write via hardcopy as well as using the message facility so its covered both ways.
    Good luck.;)

Usually if they cancel a PPI policy then you have to have a new loan drawn up so i cannot understand this unless they have just "given" you a goodwill gesture? How they would normally do it (other than Egg of course!!) is to cancel the PPI, refund to you the amount you have paid to date with the interest you have paid to date (and add 8% statutory interest) and then take the remaining PPI and interest that would be due off the balance at that date and open a new loan to reflect. This is for a redress for misselling though. I would leave your complaint and see what they say next in writing. You have not had anything in writing yet so that is the next thing and take to FOS if they do not uphold the whole amount if you are not happy.

As regards the secure messaging, i would send one by this method BUT also put a hard copy in the post perhaps.
  • Thanks once again for your responces to my post.

I will wait to hear from Egg, for their reasons reducing my loan amount before deciding on my next course of action.

I will keep you all posted....!!
