Hey lady! Don't beat yourself up, you're doing brilliantly in the face of adversity!

I think everyone approaches debt repayment differently. I have a set figure set aside every month and whatever I have left after the minimum has been paid I tend to put it to the highest paying card or the one that has least time left on a deal. I know others try to pay one debt off at a time but given the magnitude of my debt it's not really an option for me!

Have you looked at the snowball calculator and had a play around with it, it's worth it www.whatsthecost.com just to see the difference a few pounds make.

The good thing is you ARE doing something, you're not burying head in sand so however you approach cannot be the wrong way.

As for OH, I share your despair, it has taken me YEARS to get OH in the position he is now - my foot firmly on his head - but I am keeping everything crossed he stays like this. He has a vision of debt free life in 9 years and is focused on that date or I will put both feet on his head!

    Keep going, you're doing brilliantly!

Awh thanks hun and especially since you are knackered.

I am still, as stated, trying to get sorted with minimum payments and I will look at snowball, just think right now DFD being 100 years away would depress me.

If ebay works ok, I might actually have some spare pennies and then I will re-examine my national debt. I think we could all apply for jobs as chancellor at the end of this.

DH - OMG. He listed stuff on ebay - industrial bakery type - fee's £30 and then decided it was the wrong place to list them - fees I guess are goners

He just doesn't get it - [STRIKE]bless[/STRIKE] f*** him

You know I worried that he may sneaky on here and read my diary and was going to change password but then I thought, nah, might do him good. So sweetie if you are reading this...........please do share when it SINKS IN! xx

NOW JAN 2019 (that still needs to change)
  • Brilliantly well done on the listing. Sometimes I force myself to do it, and 20 feels like hard work!

As to how to start your DF life, first thing IMHO is to make sure you can meet all the minimum payments. And maybe just tread water for a bit once that's in place, as things sound tight just now.

But whilst that's happening, find ways of cutting down on all the boring utilities, and then plough whatever you manage to save there into whatever debt you feel most motivated by.

Most people here say focus on whichever has the highest APR, which is v sensible, but as in your case you seem to have a kind of...special...relationship with someone called Richard, maybe he's the one for any surplus.

I focused first on my Tesco card, as it had the lowest balance and so seemed less daunting, and am now onto my RBS, which in the meantime has been reducing anyway, and then my last will be my Egg balance. That's also reducing monthly as I've kind of grown up and no longer use my cards. And I couldn't bear to undo all my hard work anyway for some 5 minute fancy.

Easy. Well not, actually. But the key is to be able to live on what you have, not what you think you should have.......

I'd also add that in your case, cash flow is the issue, like many people who are SE, which is where prompt invoicing and payments and putting aside for tax comes in.....

Anyway, almost anyone on here is better than me at all of this, but this is my take on how to begin, from my own experience.....

    Mrs R
    #Tesco 0% NIL Jan 2010
    # RBS 3.9% NIL Oct 2010
    # Virgin 0% £2670.92 Oct 2010
    # RBS O/D NIL - repaid with redundancy pay Jan 2010

Thank you Mrs Robinson, I agree I need to tread water for a while. Not much I can do about utilities - already the cheapest available but I have been looking at our life assurance and once I get all clear from current round of tests from hospital I will change. We have 2 x £200k, when really it should be joint policy for the same - should save about £30.

Richard - is first on my list - I do have one 0% card - think its got 7 mths left - and I need to be mindful of that too. But my mind needs to get rid of Richard because that one reminds me of my stupidity!!

Just wrapped 2 million ebay parcels (ok about 14 really) but it felt like 2 million.

All the little punters are looking at the new listings - all they need to do is bid - have 104 listed in total - so at least £100 there I think - yay hey!

Need to get to beddie byes - normal have long soak on Sunday evening but just too tired tonight - its that run of IMD, it completely wiped me out :)

Well done on listing the stuff and great amount so far.
Just let Richard be your motivator and I'm sure you'll come up with bits of money from somewhere.
