Desperate to find a home for cat

Hi

My best friend took in a cat from a work colleague. It was not planned and was short notice as he was emigrating and 2 days before hand the person who was suppose to take it in let him down. As far as she is aware it was a stray and he had it for around 9 months.

So, she took it in with a view to finding it a new home as it would have got left behind otherwise. Together we have tried everything, seeing if there is anyone at work who can have her, friends, family, freecycle and all the local rescue places, RSPCA, Cat's Protection, etc.... which are full or not taking in any more cats, we've even looked at places further afield. The best so far is a local cat rescue place who have said to send pictures, description, etc.. and they will put her up on the website as they are full, but if they get any enquiries they will do the vetting, collect her, etc....

The main issue is that my friend works full time, and it is unfair to have the cat out all the time. She is not a house cat at all and her road sense is awful (friend lives on an estate, but it is quite busy). It just doesn't seem fair to leave her out all day and my friend sufferes with asthma and for some reason 'Felix' causes havoc with this (although she has never reacted this bad to other people's cats). She is also so needy. She craves attention and just wants a cuddle all the time. I think she is an older cat.

She has had her now for about 3 months and is now desperate to find her a good home. We are both going travelling mid march for just over 6 weeks and Felix will need to be gone by then.

Does anyone have any suggestions please. My friend is in the Cheshire area.

What about your local freecycle group? The local vets?

Have tried both - Freecycle, not one response. Vets - they gave me the numbers of the local cat rescue places, which I'd already got anyway.

    Thanks,

If your friend was in my area, I'd take the poor thing in. Have you posted on http://www.catchat.org/ - this website also gives you a list of all the local shelters in your area?

As for your friends allergy. There is a product you can buy in larger pet shops, Boots stores and online at www.biolife-international.co.uk called Petalcleanse. This is meant to neutralise allergens.

  • Thanks Princess, yes the catchat website is the one we've been using and I feel so sorry for the cats on there. Poor Felix, I don't want her to be another cat looking for a home, they look so sad on there :(. We'll look into the allergy tablets too, I can't remember what the ones are she is taking at the moment.

If she isn't rehomed by mid March I really don't know what we'll do :-((((

have a look on Purrs in our hearts, someone on there might be able to foster the poor girl or know of a rescue. They usually have lots of help on offer.

And post a pic on here! PaddyPaws is right, one of us in the right area will probly not be able to resist!
Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.

Most big rescues will add you to a waiting list if your need is time-limited, have you asked for this? Definitely try Purrsinourhearts, you may find a smaller or more distant rescue that is able to take her in.

Try to avoid sending her to the RSPCA if you can, they put far too many down if they can't find them homes, Cat's Protection far better.

Why isn't she a house cat, sounds as if she is if she craves attention?

If she's used to being outside, what about trying to find her a home on a small holding/farm/stables? Do you have anything like a City Farm type place in the area?

Hope you find a home or fosterer soon.

  • I have a similar problem except I only have a week to rehome my neighbours cat.
He died last week and I promised him I would take care of him.
He knew I couldn't do it personally because his cat terrorises all of mine!
I didn't realise how difficult it would be and time is running out.
He's a beautiful all black male neutered cat about six years old.
He's virtually a house cat now (neighbour was in hospital for a few months before he died) but he couldn't be rehomed anywhere with other cats and dogs because he'll chase them off! He's happy to be stroked but will not allow anyone to pick him up. For this reason I wouldn't place him with small children either.
I'm bordering Lancs/Manchester/Merseyside/Cheshire if anyone is interested.
