Don't forget though that you still have the problem that they may pay by paypal and won't have any tracking.

Thats my concern, to play by ebay rules doesnt seem to protect the seller enough, ill just have to go with gut instinct, got 4 watchers and had 2 questions from different e bayers, sensible questions (if that makes sense)both with good feedback as buyers, so will have to see how it pans out.
    thanks

I have sold the odd item which they have paid Paypal and collected. I get both of us to sign an acknowledgement slip to confirm collection and keep one each. Never let anything go without one.

    Seems to work for me.

The trouble is this does not protect you from an item not received claim as Paypal will only accept a signature on delivery as proof.

Your signed slip would be evidence if you decided to open a claim, but there are court fees to pay and no guarantee that you would ever get any money even if you 'win' the case.

I suggest you brush up on the paypal terms and conditions.

You don't need protecting against 99% of the buyers who will be genuine, you only need protection against the scammers who target naive sellers who don't get the rules.

I still alow bulky but cheap things to be collected, I don't bother with any form of receipt as I know I will lose a paypal chargeback and couldn't afford to use small claims. However I understand the risk and so far have been fine , but that doesn't mean there isn't a risk just that I haven't met a scammer yet. I also limit my collection only sales to things I can afford to lose if it does go wrong, but I doubt I will be scammed for a £10 item.

There is no way at all I would list collection only on any high end good or somehting in the scammed areas like baby equipment or electricals.

Listed yesterday, sold today on a BIN, and buyer happy to pay cash on collection, so hopefully no problems.

You can't request cash through the post, or indeed just list cash as an alternate payment option in case an idiot sends you cash through the post off their own back.

But cash on collection is fine and ebay still get their fees,

You are qite right but the point of the thread is to avoid paypal on collection. So whilst a seller can sugegst cash on collection as an alternative they cannot insist on it.
