Cash on collection? What do I do?

Hi all, basically Im selling something on Ebay and have had message from someone saying would I except an offer and could they pick up. I responded no offers but yes they could pick up and would prefer cash on collection if so. They have now messaged back saying that if they pay cash then i dont pay paypal fee and also could eliminate ebay completely so i pay no final value fee.

Ive never sold anything and had someone pickup so am new to it but i assume that doing this would be against ebay policies? Just want to do it the right way.:)

I thought cash on collection was preferable for the seller - Paypal require proof of delivery which is impossible with collection, so an 'item not received' claim can then be made by the buyer.

Ebay do allow cash but Paypal must also be offered.

As for selling off Ebay, for obvious reasons, ebay say 'don't do it'.
  • Dont do cash on collection, for any reason. Its against ebays/paypals policies.

Get them to go through the proper channels, espescially since your new this could be a risky thing and at least youd have paypal to help if anything went wrong!
That seems logical, but no. :(

If you let them pick up then definitely go for cash- there is a scam where the people pay by paypal, pick item up and then open a item not recieved claim.

The seller can't prove that the buyer has it, and they lose their item and their money.

It's against ebays policies to sell off ebay, but cash is fine (technically you can't "prefer" it though)
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I think you are getting muddled. Sellers cannot insist on cash on collection but they can offer it and buyers are always free to suggest it. Paypal on colelction is the big nO no if you don't understand why then check out this thread for new sellers:

OP it is of no disadvantage to you to do this off ebay, it is only the buyer who is disadvantaged.

i have used cash on collection lots and no probs............never accept paypal and allow the item to be collected as its against paypals policy ...the buyer can do a chargeback and you wont have any proof of trackable posting, without that your buyer will get a refund from paypal ........cash on collection simply end the listing and save yourself some ebay fees.

This is wrong, don't ever accept paypal and collection. It's a scammers dream come true - they pick up the item go to paypal open a item not received and get a refund and the item because theres no way you can prove delivery.

Who cares if it's against ebay's policies?! If you want to sell something you own to someone for cash, that's up to you.
