  • Thanks for that EagerLearner, will phone them tomorrow. Didn't want to go the legal route due to stress and hassle etc. but am not turning my back on £450.

Additionally the house now has a new front door (definitely) and new carpets (allegedly, according to the advert). I'll admit, I was hoping he would put something in writing that I could contest as I took some photos before I moved out but he seems to be an 'old hat' at this, definitely knows how to work it.

What is it with some people that they think letting out property is an excuse to grab as much cash as possible out of people? On a personal note, given the number of buy-to-letters that there now are, I think it should be mandatory that they sign-up to a federation or public body, that at least may weed out the unscrupulous ones. :o

wordsmith - please dont judge all landlords by the same yardstick - many of us are extremely good landlords !

EL, have been away and had been wondering all along how you got on. Have to admit I'd worked myself into a bit of a frenzy, and was a little disappointed when I saw how much you got back.

But when I read through your later thread of how much it cost her in the long run, a smile did creep up on my face.

WELL DONE YOU, for all your hard work, the satisfaction of winning must be immense.

There are def great landlords out there (mentioning no names, nudge nudge, wink wink) but a few rotten apples spoil thereputation of the rest.
We have yet to receive anything from her asking us to sign re the court payment she made - I am desperately hoping she sent it to our old address... haven't collected mail from there in, gosh, ages - we only get junk mail there you see so no point :D;)

  • Right, rumbling on and on, have taken a few days off from it as safe that landlord has shot himself in the foot with letter he has sent me! Have sent reply saying pay up in 14 days or face court action. No reply as yet.

Clutton, I know not all landlords are like the one I am dealing with and it is a shame that one bad apple colours your opinions, I suppose it's the case that you don't know what this is like until you go through it. Oh well, hopefully this will be concluded soon. Truth to tell it isn't the money its the principle now!

    Hi El

Did you have to fill in an Allocation Questionnaire? I've tried looking on the thread, found a bit about it around page 60 but can't find what you put in it. I'm stuck on section G 'other information.'

    Thanks for any help.

Regarding post of the month i think its just a case of the site being so big now that many do not even know threads like this exist. I only came across it by reading the thread of the month post so a bit backwards really !
E L has obviously done so much to put her own experiences to use for others.

Tenants will still get ripped off for work that is not done, especially when the agent is part of the deposit scheme !
