Congratulations EagerLearner.
I'm glad that (hopefully) now it's all over but a bit disappointed you didn't get more (and that it's all over).
Seems that the LL has managed to keep over half the deposit with no real justification - never mind that it's cost her more than that.
I've never kept any part of a deposit (even when I could) but maybe I'll change that policy - seems like half might be expected.0 -

This is my first post on MSE. Just wanted to say a very big thank you to everyone who has taken an interest in this drama over the past months. The support and advice has been incredible, without it we would have been more reluctant to risk going to court. Eager Learner has amazed me with her enthusiasm to see this case through to the end and I owe that to you guys and MSE for so much invaluable information. Sure we wish that the court had awarded a larger return but the fact is that we finally won the case.
Cheers

Hi, first post on here and first time posting anywhere for awhile, nearly forgot what to do!
I am in a similar situation to what this thread covers, my landlord is withholding my deposit, claiming damage which he was not informed about. He is also adamant that the cause of this damage was a satellite dish which he claims I installed. I didn't and never had Sky during my time there (have never had it period for that matter) and can prove this. Sent him a response back stating that the satellite dish was nothing to do with me. His response was an angry letter with a very aggressive and sarcastic tone. I have now received three replies from him, have answered his questions but he still keeps asking the same ones over and over, as if they aren't sinking in. Worryingly, he also states that he would like his questions answered in a certain way. I haven't done this mind you, I will answer a q as it suits me, not word it for his benefit.
He states that damage has been caused (damp on walls etc., even though the house is not adequately damp-proofed) and states that repairs were expensive, without giving figures or proof of this.
Bearing in mind that I moved out over two months ago, he stated that his reason/excuse for not contacting me was that he had lost my telephone number and a file that he keeps details in. Now, within one month of me contacting him, he has managed to find the file! He must think I was born yesterday!
It feels like this has been dragging on forever and it has given me a couple of sleepless nights already thinking I may have lost my deposit or have to go through hell to get it back, and I am still no further forward. I am about to respond to his third letter and want to turn the screws a bit but whats the best way of going about it, if I was to put in writing what I really thought about him every other word would have to be censored! What should I do?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -
Don't panic !!! did you get an inventory signed by him when you moved in ? when did you move in and out ? did you give him adequate notice ? was all your rent paid up to date when you left ?0
