A wee bit of topic. I am wanting to get the cup cakes from costco as a birthday cake has anyone tried these? also are they the same price as the big birthday cake?0

Hi All,
I wanted to get a birthday cake later in the week, my other half has spotted the Star Wars one in Tesco's at £8.
I just wandered if anyone else had recommendations for a good birthday cake, as some can be dry. The last two I got from M&S I was not impressed with to be honest... I can get a Costco one but we've tried this before and it's abit sweet for us - lots of sweet icing on top...
I would bake one, however my sponge cakes don't come out the best which is a shame- there is nothing like a lovely homemade cake
Any suggestions would be great thanks..
I hate iced cakes. If the Cosco one was too sweet for you then I doubt that you will be able to get less sweet iced cake elsewhere...
Why does it have to be iced?
It's my birthday on Saturday and I am going to get the Cosco chocolate mousse cake decorated with milk chocolate and white chocolate shavings. I had it 2 weeks ago when they did tastings and it's absolutely fabulous!!
Otherwise I like their sponge cake with strawberies on the top. That is always my choice. (previously I was worried that the chocolate mousse one will be too sweet and heavy, but now I know it isn't)0 -
Waitrose are doing 1/3 off Betty Crocker mixes and toppings. So I bought 2 tubs of topping and 2 mixes for about £5. Baked in a couple of roasting tins and topped with some sweeties it should make enough to feed 30 or so0

I bought a Cadbury Flake Bar Cake for my son's birthday last year and it was enjoyed by everyone. He's asked for another this year, I think it cost about £7/£8.2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

I can't remember the exact price but think they work out at approx 50p each or something which is really good considering they are huge! Taste wise hopefully someone else can help, I've not purchased these before..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. £8 or £9 I think.0 -
The Asda photo cakes are great tasting. Have had the Tesco Star Wars and Hannah Montana in the last couple of weeks, and they were both disappointing, and went stale very quick:cool: cazwasere :hello:
2008 wins about £45.... but I know the big one is just round the corner....0 -
