Ok, I'm pleased you have been doing this. Do you send out more letters every few months to the same companies? I have worked for SMEs for over 20 years (in London) and even in this climate, we receive very few direct approaches from potential employees. It is important that you keep sending the letters out to the same companies every few months as timing is very importanat - if we are looking to recruit and we get a suitable candiate approaching us directly, we will always interview them. The more letters you send, the more likely that they will remember you when they need someone. Most SMEs aren't organised enough to keep CVs of people for months on end, so it is important to keep reminding them that you are out there.

If you have done all this, and you are still getting no joy, then of course, you will have to update or improve your skills.

We started out with next to nothing
We may have next to nothing at the end
but one thing that i will have
are some good, supporting "friends"

We talk about the slippers and have so many laughs
groan about the joys of ebay, the kids and bloody other halfs
we'll still be here for each other, supporting and listening too
others may doubt us, but we know we will see it through.

So come that joyful time at end of the year
We'll raise our glass and shout our cheer
10k is ours we've worked hard to earn
a long and winding road with many lessons learned

This is completley off topic, and no one will care, but I just needed to vent my frustrations.

Arsenal are losing, and my baby is being fouled constantly. (Although he is pretty damn sexy when he's angry). The other team are making me so mad...

And OH is just laughing at me and telling me to calm down or he will turn it off. Grrr!!!
