Do you get small gifts for your OH just because you can?

My OH tends to not think about the 'small things' we women think are important, some men don't i know and they think of the bigger things, like 'i got her that big gift for her birthday she should be happy now' but what some men don't get is that to women (and to some men) your OH doing the little things for you, going out of their way a bit for you, putting in that bit of extra effort can make something special out of the most ordinary day. It can make you feel so good, just coz you know that they're thinking of you.
My OH now doesn't do it as such but we go out a few times a week and he mostly unless i beat him to it always pays, he buys me dinners, asks if we're at the supermarket if i want anything. But he doesn't often 'think all by himself' of doing something small for me. Men and women think so differently sometimes that what may seem obvious to us (and i know i have felt it on numerous occasions - couldn't he just have thought of me - he went to the shops anyway bought himself . . . . and nothing for me etc)
I tell him all the time that i like the little things in relationships, to be thought of etc.... the other day he came home from work and had been the supermarket to get a few beers for him and he me a dvd proudly produced it and said see i do get you things............. yes it was nice, but no it didn't mean as much as the motivation behind it wasn't him wanting to, it was what i said to him. To me it means so much more if it's something that you weren't expecting and something that you don't feel you'd made them buy you, it loses meaning. Men - or at least the ones i've met don't get that.
Today for Valentines i got him 2 cards 1 that can be on display shop bought and 1 private home made one just for him and me to see.
Big box of thorntons chocolates.
Box of beers.
Dvd.
Rolling tobacco.
And a year's Pro subscription to his fav online football manager game.
And when we're both off next i'm taking him to our fav Italian.
All other Valentines days he's got me the usual, flowers and chocs, last year i got chocs and a plant.
Today i got:
A card + £100 inside.
If that was you getting that would you feel happy or somehow dissapointed that it wasnt something really personal and thought out? I am saving up for a few things and he knows this and i do need a few new clothes.
Post tooooo long sorry

No! It does't usually bother me but reading this, I agree, a little thoughtful gift would be nice once in a while, no matter how small. I do make up for it though - I buy myself lots of surprise gifts

This morning I got a Valentines Card with the price sticker on the back, starting with the words "Although we've had our ups and downs" !!!!! .... I thought we'd been happily married for 10 years! He just doesn't think and always operates at 110 mph. He got a card and a home made heart shaped cake from me :A
He knows he is in the dog house slightly and can't work out why  I still love him lots though
Have you not considered that the wording on the card is a play on words?;)0 -

No!
Think I better make it up to him. He's here wondering why I am giggling.
Ooooh, I've only just worked it out: I'm not usually so [STRIKE]clean minded[/STRIKE] slow
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
My DH don`t buy me birthday or xmas pressies because i say not too lol!
He does however buy me at least once a month my favourite magazine and choccy
My DH also does the grocerie shopping every week and always pops a little something in there for me as a treat!
I think more of that then a big expensive gift twice a year lol!xDebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j
Savings £132/£1000.0 -
My OH does occasionally buy me little things although its usually when we're both out at the supermarket and he wants something himself!!
I tend to buy him things all the time because i think he'll like them. That said, im pretty difficult to buy for as i dont eat sweet things/chocolate etc and i cant stand to have tat in my house so if i ever decide i do want a chocolate bar (probably once a year!) then i'll ask for it.
However, he does make me cups of tea all the time and does have dinner on if im late home from work. Hes not a great cook and really doesnt like doing it, so i usually cook and he washes up but if he knows im going to be late he makes a real effort and its very appreciated! x£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -

I would be devastated to get a card with money in?!?!?
Valentines is about LOVE- love , thought and i honestly cannot fathom why you would just give someone money?!?
i would happily not have anything for val day as see it as a commercial pile of poo- you should love your OH everyday, but i did write him a poem and set it around the house in a treasure hunt.
he got me inexpensive but heartfelt things i like.....
Money has NO place in our relationship as a display of love.:silenced:They Were Up In Arms wrote: »I think tabskitten is a crying, walking, sleeping, talking, living troll :cool:0 -

I think it's a bit harsh to say that...the girl's OH probably didn't have a clue what she would like, and thought "well, with money, she can buy something she'll like". TBH, most guys I've been with or known would cringe at doing a treasure hunt for a poem! I know I would....lol
Getting something for your bf/gf on valentine's day doesn't mean you don't also show them love everyday. If it's a "commercial pile of poo", why do you even bother with it then??0
