noisy fan since cleaning inside pc

Hiya,
I have a Dell Dimension desktop 5150. Recently the fan has been going crazy and is generally quite loud. Sometimes when i'm not even on the pc the fan speeds up for no reason and it sounds like the pc is about to take off lol.

About once a year i open the tower and give it a clean with an airduster (i have a couple of cats and their hair gets in everywhere lol) - i did this today and since reconnecting and starting the pc, the fan is even louder and is going non stop. I've had the pc on for about half an hour now and it's relentless and quite loud too, prob the loudest i've ever heard it.

Please help....any advice GREATLY appreciated

Have you checked what temp your pc is running at, if it's ok and the fan is running correctly but just very noisy it may be time to replace your fan as it could be damaged and on it's way out ?

you can look in your bios when you boot up it will tell you what key to press to enter before windows start just don't make any changes and do not save when you exit

Check inside the case again and make sure there are no cables resting against any fans.

Fans are pretty cheap to replace though if it is on the way out.
It's my problem, it's my problem

Sounds like you may have blasted the fan too hard with your compressed air and now it's running out of balance? Or some of the fluff is stuck to one side and causing vibration.
Which fan are you referring to-case, processor or PSU?

well the thing is i can't get to the fan properly because the black casing it's in is difficult to dislodge and i don't wanna cause any serious damage. i've always just sprayed from the front and from the back and it seems to clear out the mess fine. i used the compressed air that you get in a can.

excuse my lack of techie jargon but i'm not sure what the name of the fan is. it's the larger fan situated just above the hd....
