hi all, hope you can help.
my dad has just entered the world of computers. hes bought himself a dongle to get connected to the net, but to be honest it is hopeless and so sloooow.
im trying to look at getting him signed up to a bb provider. however due to where he lives the following have said they will charge
sky state it will be £17 pcm + £11 line rental +connection fee of £30
talk talk quote 33.48 pcm plus connection fee.
anybody have any ideas if it can be done cheaper?

What does SamKnows say is available at his exchange - especially an LLU operators?

ok it says BT, BE, plusnet and eclipse are available.
is that what you meant?0 -
Assuming he currently has a BT phone line then keep his phone with BT.
As O2/Be is available either go with O2 (if he or you has an O2 mobile you can get the discount) at £7.50pm for up to 8Mb. Currently O2 are offering 2 months free and if you go through Quidco you can also get £50 cashback so it would only cost £25 for one year's BB.

If no O2 mobile available you could take Be's value package at £7.50pm - it has a 40Gb usage limit but I would imagine that shou;dn't be a problem for your dad. Cashback is £25.

OP, if it's a Market 3 exchange (post the full samknows exchange search result here if you need help on this) then you can get Plusnet Value for £5.99pm, plus £28 cashback via Quidco. It's a 10GB limit, which is probably more than enough for your dad.
O2 is a better service, being LLU, but may be more than he needs.
For all LLU options you need to do an exchange search on samknows and then post the full results found under 'LLU Operator Presence'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
its market one exchange so limited providers really.
i really wanted to try and get him everything tied up with a sky package as this would be much simpler for him, but as sky cant provide without charging £17 then i guess i will have to do everything separate.
think i will aim for the be service. seems to do what it says on the tin. just need to convince him its worth it.0 -

But Mkt 1 is BT Wholesale only, so you can't get Be, which is an LLU service (or any other LLU service for that matter). Can you post the full samknows results as requested, or just give the name of the exchange?
All non-LLU ISP's are available on a Mkt 1 exchange.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
hi here is the link for the exchange check
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EMCHSTL
and here is the link to say whats available
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php?p=summary
the reason i assume be is available is the bit that says
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
Click here to compare packages available to you.
any ideas anyone?0 -

Only BT wholesale available - no LLU operators so forget what has been said about O2/Be.and here is the link to say whats available

That link just takes you to the page asking you to put in details.

It seems to give you options that are simply not available to you.
Basically you are stuck with BT or those operators that provide a service by paying BT then charging you - unfortunately none of the cheaper packages are available.0 -

Youe exchange is Mkt 1 and has no LLU services available, and never likely to with the limited no. of subscribers. You cannot get Be or O2 LLU services.
You are limited to BT Wholesale services from any ISP you wish.
Plusnet Value will be available, but at £11.99 (£5.99 for first 3 months, plus Quidco cashback). No free lunch, and no free laptop0
