    I've been Money Tipped!
I don't see anything wrong in valentines day. We give each other cards, some years we buy presents for each other, some years we go out for a meal and others we have a nice meal at home.

We have been married for 30 years and don't need one day a year to show our love, we often go out for romantic meals, go away for romantic weekends a lot, buy each other gifts all the time but I think it is nice to celebrate valentines.

We went for a nice meal last night and chatting away to each other noticed that the couples either side of us barely said a word to each other! Now that is sad

We're not big on the whole Valentine's thing either. The boy doesn't like me wasting money on things like that, because he's quite anti-consumerist! We exchanged personalised cards (cheap ones, from tips on these forums!) and wrote soppy heartfelt messages inside, and I used my photoshop skills to fix-up a few old photos of us over the last 4 years and put them into one of the Photobox collages, which after Quidco made a profit (another MSE tip!).

He wasn't quite so MSE and bought a rather expensive boquet of flowers, but he's been known to do that on occasion regardless of consumer-driven, meaningless 'holidays'. We didn't go out for over-priced "Valentine's Dinner", exchange ridiculously costly gifts or book mini-breaks away! I'm actually somewhat suprised at how many people spend an absolute fortune on Valentine's considering what a load of rubbish it is.

Oh, and we stayed in, cooked a yummy lasagne together from scratch and played zombie computer games all day long!

valentines day seems even more commercialised and in your face than ever this year. i always thought it was meant to be about sending an anonymous card or message to someone you had your eye on and the intrigue for them was guessing who sent it. an inexpensive and fun bit of flirtation.

now it's all about valentine day menus, hotels, weekend breaks, overpriced flowers, even more overpriced chocolates, even buying 'special' underwear for the 'big' day.

i'm sick of it. me and the OH will definitely not be indulging in any of these valentines day rip-offs.

thought others could post their thoughts and also the most ridiculous valentines themed goods they have seen. prices before (and after) the big day could be amusing too.

i saw a single red rose in a tigger-themed holder for 8 quid in tesco. bleurgh!

"valentines day rip - off" mmmmmmmmmmmm i read this and all the posts, , and also agreed its a big overprice ripoff. . Now I’m in the dog house been there for 4 days....... any ideas now?
