DH and I don't really bother most years. We make each other a card, and in the past have gone out for dinner (somewhere cheapy, or with vouchers etc.) We show each other all year round anyway, so don't need a special day for it.
I saw some hideous teddy bears in boxes, tied up with cellophane and loads of ribbon for over a tenner! They were vile! Really gaudy and tacky.0 -
It doesn't have to be a big expensive free for all. I made OH pine nut shortbread, he made me a bacon and egg muffin this morning (with a heart shaped egg, no less!) and we exchanged sappy you tube links on Facebook.
It's a slightly more elaborate way to say I love you, but it's a nice day. The cards and roses and stuff are traditionally a single-people thing and it's crap that the anonymous fun bit has been marginalised because marketing people know how to make boyfriends and girlfriends and husbands and wives feel obligated and guilty.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

statistically valentine's day is the second most popular time for dumping people after new years! if someone gave me a troll with i love you on it i'd probably dump them too.....Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

We haven't bothered this year with cards or presents, I am just so sick to death of all the valentines stuff everywhere! We are going to have a lovely 3 course meal tonight courtesy of M&S but we would have done that whether it was valentines day or not.Slimming World - 3 stone 8 1/2lbs in 7 months and now at target :j0

We haven't bothered with presents this year as we are trying to save for a holiday. We just got each other a nice card and will relax tonight s a dvd and a take away.
It amazes me the amount of rubbish you can buy in the shops.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
My dh wouldnt know romance if it bit him on the bum! Valentines day is no different. I used to get him a card but as he has never bothered ,now neither do I. I do think its a commercial nonsence tbh and romance is something that should be spontanious whatever time of year.....unfortunatley my dh just doesnt get it.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200

We used to get each other a card and a little present. But now we buy anniversary cards and mother's day and father's day card (from the children) - we would be buying something every other month if we did valentines too!
Instead we shared a nice bottle of wine and a takeaway! You can show each other your love any time of the year.0 -
My Birthday was yesterday so I don't expect anything for Valentine's Day and despite that I don't believe in all the commercialised carp.
The only thing that is very annoying is, if OH and I decide to go away for my Birthday or for a meal everything is loads dearer all because of Valentine's day so we usually do soemthing the week after which I have no problem with.0 -
I could really do without Valentine's Day to be honest!
OH's birthday is February 17 and while I dont mind buying him a nice present for his birthday, the 2 of them combined cost me a fortune!
Last year it cost me about 200 quid  ditto this year!!!
Sorry, but if you are spending £200 on presents and resenting it, then you are a ijit!
Spent £2 on a card for hubby. That's it. He got me flowers, chocies and a card. More than sufficient.0 -
Last year I realised that it was valentines day at about 4pm, then forgot again by the time I saw my OH, then we were both reminded the next day by being told what others had done.
This year we've just agreed that it's a bunch of bull, hence why I'm sat at work at 12.30pm (and no one else is working the shift, guess they're taken in by the bull).0
