    the guy still needs paying ...... he has reduced the bill as recognition that he only did a diagnostic visit

    i expect the add on amount of £40 was as per his terms and conditions of trading.. most building type self employed buisnesess only offer credit for 14 days....

    Just decline to pay there invoice on the basis that the work provided was below par. i.e they got it wrong.
  • As Colincbayley says - decline as the diagnosis was incorrect and no work was carried out (thankfully!). Good luck and don't lose sleep over it - if you took this to an Ombudsman I think you would win anyway. Hopefully they just let it go....

    Nothing wrong with a change of opinion Clutton, my wife does it all the time.

    On a side note, I have just got her a new bag and a belt for valentines day!
    ( now she will be able to do the hoovering!! ):D
