Lemon Labs, someone did query earlier, but who do you work for. From reading you answers I would be safe to assume that it may be one of these two companies! My money is on PCW0

Hey guys, apologies for reviving this thread.
I've been talking to a friend of my family who is a Financial Director of a large global company.
It seems that this scam is in violations to many articles in the Consumer Protection Act. Specifically miss sold agreements not concurrent to what is called a Gentleman's agreement is considered a null and void contract. Both parties in an incorrect contract must return all items and payments to the other party.
Two things can support you of this.
PC World and Rentsmart requires documents of proof that you have a business at the time of purchase. If you have no business (this does not include having Excel on your computer) then you should not be sold the product. If this shows that you are indeed not using this for running a business, or that you do not have a business that is recognized by the Trade and Standards of your local or regional area. Then the contract is null and void.
If you had a witness who attended the meeting and transaction and can confirm that you were actually taking out a payment plan in a get now and pay off in installments through a set period.
Contact your council and report PCWorld to Trading and Standards and they'll assist you in making sure that all money is returned to you at the risk of them losing their license.
I must state this guys, you need to make a petition and send it to Number 10 and have this stopped and your money returned.0 -
OMG! I cant believe this! Ive just had many phonecalls to Rentsmart and Currys when I bought an Ipad two years ago, the conclusion was that when my contract "ends" (this month) rentsmart would continue for another 3 months and let me keep the Ipad. I of course also do not own a business and the adviser at time of sale DID NOT make it apparent that it was no more than a finance aggreement. Problem is I dont have the money for a lawyer as Ive already paid £329 on top of the £399 ipad and cant really afford anything else. Am I doomed to shut up and take the 3 months added?!?
P.S sorry if the answers are in this post but im at work and dont have time to read it all0 -
Hi i need some advice but first of all for anyone thinking about purchasing a laptop from pc world just buy it that day DO NOT GET SUCKED IN TO THE RENT SMART MONTHLY PAYMENT AGREEMENT NO MATTER WHAT ADDED EXTRAS YOU GET GIVEN ..so two years ago in may i purchased a notebook laptop from pc world in Bluewater the price at the time was £249.99 the gentleman who served me was very lovely and he told me all about the laptop its features etc .. i explained it was going to be a birthday present for my then boyfriend.. when i said ill take it he then began to mention about the rent smart option so for £21ish a month for 24 months I would get norton software and insurance and spoke about know how .. to be honest i know how to use a computer but when it comes to software i don't really understand it but as long as it works .. i thought it sounds like a good deal i even i asked what the catch was and he replied with a laugh and said theres not one it was a 24 month contract and if at the end of the contract i don't wish to upgrade i can just purchase the lap top at what its value which would of been a small fee of no more the £30 .. so again i agreed.. I am very rubbish with contracts so i ask the gentleman to just explain the contract for me so i was fully aware of what I'm signing .. not once was i told two years later and already one extra monthly rental later i would then need to pay another 11 months to keep the laptop.. i get the call from rentsmart early in may saying that it clearly states in the contract it would never be that and the laptop would never cost only £30 to keep it.. at this point I'm quite annoyed with myself for being so naive but for being so trusting but i guess i felt they were a big name company and never would i of thought id get so messed around.. I'm a budget person I'm very good with my money so i just didn't have the money to fork out for another 11 months .. i told rent smart i can't pay and that it was never told to me once the 24 month contract ended id be lumbered with another 11 months and i explained how pc world had mis sold me this laptop .. rent smart went on to say will as a gesture of kind will we will accept another 3 months to keep it and again i explained this would be impossible as i have no money to do so .. a month on now and I've had another call from rent smart saying that if i don't pay then the credit people will get the money of me somehow .. I'm currently suffering anxiety over this and don't know what to do .. its not a lot of money but I'm currently not working due to back problems and as i budget i never budgeted for such outgoings .. I'm so worried that my credit history could be effected ... HELP!!!!!0

Hi,I'm also in same boat got 2 iPads ,end of 2 year contract up next week ,thought I would now own them got letter giving me 3 options ,now they have intro a 4th saying carry on paying 12.50 for next 2 years for the same iPads then can keep them I was never told this was a rental agreement and would have to send them back ,why on earth would I do that ,I have paid £1,400 for 2 iPads ,been in to currys on the snipe in Tameside to complain saw the original person who sold them us ,and like I told her ,I don't think she deliberately meant to con me , and CONNED I feel ,but it wasn't explained that I would have to send them back ,she did say I would get money back ( if upgraded but that wasn't mentioned) or could ask for settlement figure which wouldn't b much .i have been in twice to complain and now she phoned rent smart and they said I can keep it if I pay 3 more payments @ £34 =£102 ,we use these iPads for Facebook ,photos etc, etc, certainly not for business,as been mentioned in previous comments I will never get anything from currys again .i have to let them know what I decide to do ,feel like smashing them if I have to send them back ,complete waste of money 0

I can't believe this is still going on. I bought a laptop for my wife 5 years ago and was persuaded by a lying salesperson to accept a "great deal". "Rent rather than buy and keep your money in your pocket, and pay it over three years", he said. He asked if it was for business use and I told him that I was retired (aged 72) and was not in business. He then asked if I did spreadsheets on the computer and I said no, but I had a database with family and friends addresses and telephone numbers. "That's fine" he said and went ahead with arranging the rental. When I got home, I worked out the total cost appeared to be only around £40-£50 more than the original price, but after a few months I double checked the contract and discovered that it was a four-year deal. I than contacted RentSmart and asked them to cancel the contract, but was told that I would have to pay the remaining monthly payments in a lump sum. I ended up paying over £1000 for a £350 laptop which I returned at the end of the contract. I wrote to the Chief Executive of PC World/Currys about his staff conning customers (no reply) and also contacted BBC Watchdog and got a response saying that the current series was about to end but they were working on another consumer programme and were very interested. I sent them all the documentation and believe the programme was broadcast, but sadly, I missed it. I haven't entered a PC World or Currys store since and I never will.0

I too have the same issue with rentsmart, I went to buy a pc outright from currys 2 years ago whilst I was still in uni. Fastforward two years after having paid the 48 payments of £36 they ring to say I can either upgrade/ send back the goods or pay another 3 payment of £36 and have the computer outright. I have read through the contract and nowhere nor do I recall this was how it was sold to me otherwise I would have paid upfront for the PC I was told that after the 48 payments the laptop would be mine or I could upgrade.
I was told over the phone by a rentsmart customer adviser that another payment was due in three days (additional on top of the 48 I had already made) if the goods weren't returned as I told the gentleman they were basically robbing money from me as I did not give them permission to take any additional payments and they knew very well I would not be able to send a laptop to them by post over a weekend.
I cancelled the direct debit from my bank straight away now today I have received a phone call saying I owe them money and that they will have to take action with balliffs if I don't pay.
Were do I stand with this I have scrutinised the contract documents and cant find anywhere that says you need to pay extra to own the laptop at the end. all car dealerships with similar finance programmes state you pay extra to own it. also other people have commented about business ownership how do I find out if I have been put on a business owner contract, I was a student at the time and even now still don't own a business. im annoyed t myself as I never do finance options
please help Rachel0 -

Also - 48 payments in two years?"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0 -
"correction it was 24 payments in two years", the sales assistant in pc world who sold me it guaranteed I would own it at the end or be given the opportunity to upgrade and nowhere in the contract does it state that in order to keep it you have to make additional payments therefore they are miselling. BBC have looked into it and have undercover footage of salespeople in currys telling their undercover people the same spiel.0

also can I just ask has anybody ever actually ha to go through legal proceedings for not returning goods and making the additional payments or had the goods seized by rentsmart? please let me know your outcomes.0
