Until you need proof your address.

My online statements are exact copies of postal statements, so they have my address on.

    See section 84 subsection 3

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/ACTS/acts2000/ukpga_20000026_en_8#pt5-pb1-l1g84

"A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person’s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him."

Merely opening a letter addressed to someone else is not an offence.
An offence is commited if there is an intention to act to the persons detriment and there is no reasonable excuse for doing so.

Well, you see someone's name on an address which is not yours and you know it should be bank statements. Tell me, what excuse for you to open the envelope?? Most people might have VERY sensitive personal information on the statement which they don't want other people know. You opened the envelope deliberately. You invaded someone's privacy. That is not illegal?

It could be argued that burning the statement is acting to the person's detriment.

Few, if any, banks will accept an online print-out, even if it is an exact copy of the paper statement.

However, as has been pointed out above, you still have utility and council tax bills that can be used as proof of address.

wow ! that is beyond petty !

First off it is illegal to open someone else's post , the right thing you should have done is to send the statement straight back to the bank. The statement is not meant for your eyes.

    Yep as expected. Petty responses.

The bank account holder is some !!!!! trash from a council estate who stole my gear and didnt give it back.

not that I care cos I got it eventually from Company A.

    Spare the rubbish.

    Who cares?

    It could be.
But what has to be proved is an intention to act to the persons detriment. Which is more difficult to prove.

pfff lol I don't need a lecture on the law either.

The law is a joke in this country. Take self-defence at home as an example.

I don't think so. Would you give the letter to a !!!!! idiot that is well known to the old bill?

    I don't think so.

You can carry on talking crap about angelic deeds, but future letters to me from this certain address will be Destroyed.
