I think he's unlikely to be given a bus pass if he's got a driving licence; unless the walking ability / HRM applies to him.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I agree in this situation it is unlikely he'll be given one as there isn't really any provision for someone who is ok to drive sometimes but not always, you don't normaly get a licence if that's the case so be carefull that his attempts to get a free travel pass don't put him at risk of having his licence revoked because of his condition."Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
He got the licence when he was 19. He is now 46 and has not had a car for years. The main problem with these passes seems to be the inconsistency. If someone is entitled to a pass in London they must be entitled to one in Manchester.0

They know this person is entitled to a pass but they are hoping to save money by refusing the application. If it was me i would take this case as far as possible.
The council have a right to save other residents hard paid taxes.
Unless the OP has been denied a driving permit they can refuse. The OP can't expect to get a pass because he 'thinks' he wont get a licence to drive.
OP, I dont see what the problem is here. You want a bus pass, then provide the council with the information they need. If you cant do that, they dont complain about it. Its other people's taxes you are wanting to spend, not some random business man0 -
Why?

There's a saying you may have heard of, "If you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.""Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
Aputsiaq........ This is the same council that paid £1.4million for the B of the Bang, an ugly metal sculpture that looked like it had been designed by a five year old child. When it comes to wasting money councils are in a league of their own.0

My pass arrived today after two appeals. There is no requirement to apply for a driving licence. They just use that hoping people will give up. Thanks to everyone who replied.0

Really glad it's all sorted now, well done :-)"Life is what you make of it, whoever got anywhere without some passion and ambition?0 -
Glad you got it sorted. can't help but feel you've been lucky to manage to get it sorted without having to go through the rigmarole of applying for a driving licence.
Rules regarding epilepsy and driving are not what most people expect them to be. I've had epilepsy for the past 8 years, following a head injury. However it's medicated, and I'm usually seizure free. I'd held a driving licence for 3 years, having been free of seizures for 4 years, until I had a one-off seizure last May. DVLA have quite clear rules on this - if you have a single seizure while you are awake (different rules regarding those who only have seizures when they're asleep, but still as inflexible rules) you must give up your driving licence. Once you've been free of seizures for a year, you can have your licence back.
It's an interesting dilemma. I have a free local travel pass, and a disabled persons railcard, although this doesn't make rail travel to work any cheaper than just buying an ordinary monthly rail pass, as East Coast Rail claim the season tickets are already heavily discounted. So what this means is I can get on the bus to the train station for free, but still pay standard rate for my travel to work on the train.
I'll be (fingers crossed, barring no further seizures) eligible to reapply for my driving licence in May. This means my free local transport pass will expire. I do feel that, considering I had a seizure with very little warning, after being seizure free for 4 years, to start driving again after just a year is a risk, even though I did have a change to my medication regime post-seizure. But if I have to pay for my buss pass as well as my rail season ticket, my transport costs will shoot up, and will make it completely illogical to continue travelling to work by public transport (I could drive, including petrol, insurance and my work parking permit for less than what the rail season ticket alone costs, never mind the buss pass). I know some people will say that I can't expect to get free or reduced public transport costs if I'm eligible for a driving licence, but surely there's the risk element to consider here?
Incidentally, I'll still have my disabled persons railcard for a further two years as they're issued for 3 years at a time. Am I obliged to hand it in?OS weight loss challenge: 4.5/6 lbs0 -
Hi Kitty, you'd need to check with the railcard people, if you still need someone with you when you travel then i don't see why you should hand it back as you paid for the railcard.0
