    Hi all,

I've gone ahead with it ang used the D&A trial & contacts by post I noticed on the pricing that after care accounted for £5.70 of the mothly £11.00 cost (i've asked for 30 pairs every 3months so I can top up with cheaper ones from the internet).

Has anyone ever really had any need for these expensive aftercare services? I may just cancel it now i've had the free contacts assessment.

On another note, how do people tell which way focus dailies go in? I can never tell if i've got them the right way round. They bend exactly the same whichever way round you have them imo!!

Yes, some people can need them.
Contact lenses can cause infections or a number of other problems and you might need repeat visits.
This is most likely is you are a new user.
Whether you want to pay for private consultations each time or pay for it monthly and have as many as you need is just a decision you need to make.

I would say that for a new user (who might encouter problems) then maybe a good idea to stick with it for at least a few months.
Once you're confident that the fit is OK and you're not going to have problems then perhaps cancel.
Obviously you could have a problem at any time, but my experience it that it's most likely for new users.

I don't know about this particular type, but most I've had are a different shape.
If they are inside out then they bend outwards at the edge (like a cerel bowl) and not inwards.
They also don't feel right if they are put in inside out.

If you really can't tell then book one of those free aftercare appointments and get some instructions.
That's what you pay your £5.70 for - to have the peace of mind of being able to go back whenever you need.

I understand that if I order from UK web shops like Postoptics, I will be requested to produce a "formal" contact lense prescription. For those who ordered from US sites such as coastal, were you asked for a copy of the prescription as well?

I know my prescription from the contact lense I am wearing, but do not wish to go through the hassle of getting one formally from my currect high street supplier.

https://www.lensway.co.uk doesn't request the address of your optician, you just need the details of your prescription.
    Waddle you do eh?

    Hi Sheel,

I went to check visiondirect.co.uk as they have very cheap colour lenses, but the site does say that you need to fax or post them your prescription. Have you bought from them without a prescription? Are they going to accept an order without a prescription?

  • My daughter has just started wearing disposable lenses from Specsavers. I have to pay £24 for I think 28 pairs. Is there anywhere I can get a better deal than this.

I buy Acuvue 2 (2-weekly disposables) from visiondirect.com in the US. 3 months supply including shipping works out just over £20. Never had any trouble with them regarding delivery (normally takes about 10 days) - and only paid import duty when I got greedy once and ordered £40 worth.

Acuvue 2 are also VERY comfortable to wear imo.

  • Can anyone help me please? - sorry so long but wanted to try to give as much info as possible

This thread got me thinking and so after an 8 year break I went for a free trial contact lens consult at Specsavers yesterday.

My new glasses prescription (shortsighted) is right eye -2.50, 0.75 (Cyl) 12 (Axis) and in the left eye -2.50, 0.75 (Cyl) 180 (Axis).

Anyway, I did some checking first on this thread and various sites, but opticians was running very late so I was basically shipped in and out of the contact lens consult (as a new user) in about 5 minutes flat.

I explained that I hadn't got on at all well last time 8 years ago (non-disposable soft lenses), lenses uncomfortable after about 4 hours, very dry and lots of redness in my eyes - I imagine this would mean I could do with more expensive lenses to allow my eye to "breathe"?

Anyway, she has given me standard monthly (NON-toric) lenses to try, but at -2.75 in each eye (my prescription is -2.5) to try to partially correct the small astigmatism without using torics.

In one eye I've got Coopervision Frequency 55 Aspheric (£12pcm all incl on their scheme) and in the other CIBA Optix O2 (15pcm). This is supposed to be a new lens with higher water content and allowing x5 more oxygen to the eye plus longer wear in comfort.

First impressions, the CIBA optics are indeed much more comfortable. When I put them in I can't feel either lens, but after about 5 hours of wear, if I blink I can feel the standard lens flicking about in my eye, but still can't feel the O2 lens at all.

My PROBLEM is that with both lenses, there seems to be something of a focus problem. I've got a permanent headache and it feels like a permanent strain behind my eyes. Its not blurred as such but I can only read text easily up to a couple of feet, when with glasses I can read more.

What do you think - is it because I'm not used to lenses, or do I need the toric lenses?

And finally - anyone know the difference between the following (all offered at the same price at specsaversdirect - not sure about in store prices): CIBA Focus Toric, Coopervision Frequency XCel Toric, Hydron Actitoric, and Proclear Compatibles Toric. Thank you thak you thank you!!!
  • sorry to *BUMP* - but can anyone help as I have my checkup this week. Thanks
