I have always refused to install a computer without a surge protector (and have done so for almost 20 years now). I have suggested a couple of times on this board that people try installing surge protectors .. especially if their power supply is a bit on the weak side.
One problem though that I see poeple do with surge protectors is not keeping an eye on the ampage being attached. I even saw somebody with an electric fire plugged into their surge protector. I currently have a standard 4-gang with 2 4-gang and 1 6-gang surge protectors hanging off it to drive my computers.

Every surge protector that I have bought came with a lifetime guarantee; if a surge causes it to stop working, the manufacturer will replace it.
Might be worth checking out.
I currently use a surge protector for my desktop and all of its peripherals (not phone line, but modem is a piece of cheap ISP tat), TV in the lounge has one on it too.
Still need to buy one for my laptop, how expensive are those single plug ones?0 -
