I have never Linux'd before so it might be a rather steep learning curve?
Download a live ISO image burn it to CD and boot from it - Ubuntu is here Then play a file from your PC.
Or Knoppix is here which is a total live one

Just slightly ahead of you there. I downloaded "Slax" booted with it and sound is perfect........(Really impressed with that live CD. Worked fine, just couldn't get wifi to work in the 2 minutes I had it running)

So, Not hardware, 1 second interval between scratches, appears to be a Windows 7 problem as was OK on Vista.

    Anymore ideas?

Ok dokey , what are you using to play stuff on your 7 system WMP ?
Also is there a mixer/sound card tool with the drivers?

  • I am using various things to play the sounds. WMP VLC etc. etc. The sound is scratchy from whatever source, even the New Message bleep sound from the mail program is scratchy.

Yes, there is a cool interface that gives access to the equaliser, SRS, Dolby etc.

I have tried the stock windows 7 driver and also the latest driver as suggested earlier.

Its as if an interrupt is getting in the way. (Do PCs still have IRQs and interrupts? I'm very, very old school and very out of date hard ware wise...)
  • Have you tried control panel/troubleshooting/playback ? Clutching straws again
