Laptop, scratchy sound.

This is a Dell Vostro 1000 with Windows 7 recently installed. I have put the latest drivers from the dell website on and it made no difference from the Windows 7 one.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Laptop speakers are never very good, try plugging some external ones in and see if the sound is better. If so its defo the internal speakers and not a software problem.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

It was fine on Windows Vista and I'm using the same driver.

Anything else I should look at?

Clarify this: are you saying that the issue has occurred since you upgraded this laptop from Vista to Windows 7?

    Yes, that is correct.

Weird. Will Windows 7 be accepting of the Vista driver by any chance?

Ignore, as even I'm getting confused now Lol! What about using drivers specifically for Windows 7?

    Questions are never silly!

Running on mains. I tried turning the power settings up but no difference.

Good thought though. I turned all the sound enhancements off while I was at it......no difference.

You can actually get Windows 7 drivers for this sound card. First, uninstall your existing driver. Now try the Windows 7 driver from another laptop with a similar sound card, like the Latitude E4300. If that doesn't work, there is a great guide here:
    http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/23790-latest-sigmatel-idt-modded-drivers-for-win-7-and-vista/

In addition to gaining full Windows 7 support, the drivers from that link add a much better control panel with an equalizer.
