Travel Claim - is this legal ?

So I hurt my knee and GP says I can't go on holiday.
I make a claim on my travel insurance and find out that :-
1) They won't progress my claim without a medical certificate :(
2) I had to pay (£30) to my GP for him to fill out their medical certificate form.
3) They won't reimburse me the £30 charge even though the medical certificate form was their requirement.
4) And without which they wouldn't progress my claim.....
Seems sheer blackmail to me

Anyone know if this is legal/illegal ?

    Of course it is.
How else would they know that you were genuinely injured?
Anyone could call and claim they were too ill to go on holiday otherwise.

It must be a pretty severe knee injury to prevent you from going on holiday!
    Gone ... or have I?

was there a clause within the conditions of the policy that they would charge the £30 rather than accepting a certificate from your own doctors surgery

if not then dispute it as they are relying on a clause which you did not know about when taking out the policy

Because YOU have to provide proof of why YOU can't travel...who do you think should pay?

Hmmm... interesting replies but it just doesn't sit right with me somehow.
I still feel if they want the info then they can pay for it.
Or, say I refuse to pay, it'll result in no certificate and so bye bye to my rightful claim.
Got me over a barrel....I mean, I'd have given the info for free !
  • Would you rather lose the amount your holiday cost or £30? I know what I'd do

From a financial point I hear what you say but....
I have travel insurance, I make a claim, the insurance company adds futher costs to my claim for which they'll not reimburse me - why am I being punished ?

    I wouldn't say "punished".

I imagine you agreed to supply proof or evidence. You cannot get insurance otherwise.

You are just being asked to fulfill your part of the agreement.
Its a shame doctors charge £30 for this type of thing, maybe £5 would be more in line with their costs, but that's the world today.
