Yep - chuck out the illegals and non UK nationals and then give our jobs to our people, that'd be a good start!

    Bananaboats are calling :rotfl: :rotfl:

The UK is too much of a soft touch for that sensible action to be taken.

I won't say where my job is, however, its a big computer company.

    Friends jobs:

Accountant, worked there this summer, offered a job when he graduates. (FT summer job)
Waitrose (PT job), got it in October 09
    John Lewis (PT job)
    Kew Gardens (placement)
    London Fire Service (summer job)

One person has failed to get a job even though he tried, but if you saw him you would know why.

i'm new so don't take this the wrong way, but you're post just smacks of condescending under and over tones.

I know graduates that with decent degrees have struggled to find decent graduate jobs, and for people like me, no real education it is very difficult, as graduate are taking unskilled jobs, which people like me could fill.

i've thankfully found somewhere, modest pay but i can progress, thank god for minimum wage

btw heathrow airport, when i colledcted an old aunt, i was chatting to the money exchange people, one of the guys had an economics degree from brunel and turned his summer job full time because he couldn't find much else where, therefore a lot of jobs have people filling them that are over qualified and that doesn't bode well for the likes of me
She LEFT me, she LIED, and she made me foot the BILL !

My point wasn't about decent graduate jobs or high paid jobs, but just jobs in general.

As above, there are jobs available, plenty in fact, but these involve delivering pizza or working in McDonalds, which a lot of people wouldn't do. The Domino's driver sign has been up for months and months. If I didn't have this placement I would be working there.

When I worked in Domino's before going to uni we would have sign up for workers needed, the only people that came in to ask about itwere those that were foreign.

One of the problems is specialism.

Would you at your supermarket hire:
Someone with 5+ years experience working in a cafe/shop/retail OR
Someone who worked in an IT company as a manager for 5+ years.

I would choose the first person.

When the top end job markets shrink you don't just find a job at Waitrose (as I found out).
Before people complain I didn't any money from the British government while unemployed.

There are some jobs around but let us not get it twisted, we do have a real employment issue, and a lot of traditionally full time posts where i work are reduced to part time hours.

I agree there are some lazy idiots out there but there are also the vast majority of job seekers who want work but can not find jobs.

i visited my great aunt in Northamptonshire a few weeks before xmas and it was a ghost town, the shops had closed down with the odd fast food outlets still around, that place was thrieving ten years back, the last time i visited

I'm reading this thread with utter disgust at some of the idiots views! Jobs are plentiful are they? Benefits are available are they?

What planet do these people live on? I mean, why clean a bog for £7 per hour when you'll get more on the dole.... does a p/t job at Maccy D's pay the rent, bills, petrol etc etc etc - these guys are living on cloud cookoo land and as for the OP - he has 4 nuggets missing from the standard 12 pack!

Banks have ripped us off for years, they deserve everything they get and the more accounts I personally find to be unenforceable for people on here the better - sod the banks, the fat bonuses and their ego's.

What a bitter little man you come across as in posts like this.

Hasn't your life worked out as you thought it would? Have you suffered some great disappointment?

    My sympathies.

There are more people who were born in the UK who work overseas, than there are people not born in the UK who work here.

    Try again.

I tried getting my windows cleaned the other week. The only problem is it has to be done at the weekends because noone would be there to pay them.

I called five or six places in the yellow pages and got nowhere quickly. "Can't do it for a few weeks mate - I don't work at the weekends. It's me day off, innit. Luv a duck."

Then I saw an ad in the shopwindow. I called. Tomacz from Warsaw came and did a fantastic job around 30 minutes after my call.

    Go figure.

well never in doubt's point about the bankers is correct, they have been ripping us off for years, get bailed out by us, yet in return do little to help us.

I used to go round houses of my Polish friend's when I worked at Domino's. Within 30minutes I'd be face flat on the ground. They sure can handle their drink too. :rotfl:
