I have a SEBO for the dogs and I just bought a little hand held vacuum for the stairs as its really hard to get their hairs off there.
  • I also have a SEBO cant recommend enough wouldnt be without one
  • I've had both Dysons and Miele - would go for the Miele every time, build quality and reliability are fantastic.

I know people who've gone to Dysons and wouldn't go back. Including MIL who is a long haired cat breeder meaning she has to hoover up 20 cats' fur everyday.

My Mum bought a Dyson, which broke after 4 years and her Dyson at the time only had a 2 year warranty. The motor went, she refused to pay a fortune to repair it and bought, hmm, I forget, but it wasn't a Dyson. Now, nearly 2 years later she wants to give up on this expensive hoover and go back to Dysons.

Especially when they now do 5 year warranty included in the price. Homebase, I think, are giving a £50 Argos voucher with every very reasonably priced Dyson when I was trying to find the cheapest one for them.

We've got an all-floors, bought it in the Dyson sale 3 years ago and we have a long haired cat. The Animal was all sold out - but it works just fine for me. But then, I might not hoover as often as I should lol!
    I love surprises!

Why would you think that Dyson's are the sensible choice? Is this based on marketing? I've had two Dyson's and they've both failed unrepairably within 2 yrs. I'd never buy another.

The DC19 cylinder is my second Dyson, I had a DC01 upright in 1995 and thought it was the business but later models had poor reviews. I only paid £100 from Asda, five year warranty then can pay £70 for an official service including all parts. :j Allegedly this is excellent and generous with parts that will 'soon' need replacing.

  • I've known a couple of people to own Dysons who have both now switched to Miele.

They must like them as they both have just had them serviced (both are 5-10 years old), and have been reported as better than new.

another vote for Sebo. It not only does the job well but it's really user friendly - you can easily take it to bits and fix it yourself. Not the cheapest, but really good.
  • I might get slated for saying this but if you can afford it get a used Kirby on ebay, you can pay about £150-£350 sometimes less for one and it will last you a life time, you dont have filters to worry about and they are amazing on all kinds of dirt pet hair the lot. I really mean it when I say it will last a life time, the first one I got was 25 yrs old and just needed a polish and it looked like new... its still in operation now as my neighbour bought it off me.

They are not worth the £1800 they charge by the salesmen but they are bloody good vacuums. I have had 3 and I have the Sentria now which I paid about £350 for which is the lastest version, and I have sold my others to friends/family that have been impressed with the cleaning power.

They are power assisted too so you can push them with one finger!

I have a kirby and a henry for the car etc

The new style bags are hepa bags and are fantastic.

  • I've had several dysons and have decided never to have another.
One of them blew up and the one I have now is rubbish suction wise and is'nt two years old yet.
It has a 5 year guarantee but despite posting as well as completing the guarantee registration online, when I rang to ask them to repair the thing they said they just could'nt find my registration on the computer so I'd have to pay unless I could prove I'd registered.
How on earth could I do that.
I took the whole thing apart and no blockage so it must be the motor or something.Rather than pay for something under guarantee to be fixed I'm going to buy a new hoover.
    It won't be a Dyson.

Absolutely agree, what with me and my long hair, and my b&w moggy leaving a trail (of hair) behind her, wherever she goes, ours works miracles ! And because of the ease of taking it to bits clearing the hair stuck on the roller takes about a minute max ! :T

The guarantee isn't too shabby, and the fact that they try and produce as 'green' a product as they can is a bonus too.
