Is dyson really the best choice

Is a dyson the sensible choice or should we be looking at another brand?
We have a golden retriver who molts everywhere and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations?
We are considering the dyson dc25 Animal has anyone seen any good prices for it?

  • I have a Dyson Dc08 Animal and a Golden Retriever..... they go well together!!!! I used to have a Henry and it didn't work nearly as well on the hair!

Dyson was the right choice for us - we have a dalmatian and when they moult the whole house turns white:eek: Added to which their hairs have a little barb type thing on the end which resist all attempts to remove them from any type of fabic, carpets etc. We struggled to find a vacuum that could cope with it (went through 2) but eventually persuaded other half we should splash out on a Dyson - and it's absolutely brilliant. I know others find Miele really good as well.
Can't help with prices though as it is a few years since we bought ours, and it's still going strong.

One thing with Dysons - do bother to clean the filter from time to time - ours makes a massive difference if the filter is clean to when it is choked up (OK so probably shouldn't use it to clear up plaster dust but its coped so far!)

This has just been discussed over on Purrsinourhearts forums and the Miele Cat and Dog is coming out well ahead of the Dyson Animal. My Dyson picks up cat hair fine tho and I don't have the animal version - you can buy the extra attachments on the Dyson site, so if you can get the £100 Asda Dyson, upgrade it yourself!

  • I bought a Dyson DC24 about a year ago because it's lightweight, which is important as I have spinal problems. I was concerned that it wouldn't cope with the continually moulting fur of our 2 housecats, but I needn't have worried.

I don't find it necessary to use any special attachments, apart from the tool already included, and it works very well indeed at getting rid of cat hair.

i like dysons but the build quality is appalling.
i wont ever buy another one.

get a red henry and save a fortune.
    Get some gorm.
  • Why would you think that Dyson's are the sensible choice? Is this based on marketing? I've had two Dyson's and they've both failed unrepairably within 2 yrs. I'd never buy another.
  • Our Dyson was a load of junk too, Mr Skinflint. Failed beyond repair shortly outside warranty - NOT recommended.

Now, Miele Cat & Dog on the other hand is an excellent cleaner. We've had ours since the last Dyson broke - about 7-8 years ago - and it still works like new in spite of heavy use nothing has broken on it, not even any of the cosmetic bits.

And - shock of shocks - the self-rewinding power cord still self-rewinds!!!

I have to give another thumbs up for Dyson! At present I have a DC07, and two dogs that shed lots of hair! Have had a Dyson since they first came out and have no problem recommending them. Would agree with Westondave about the filters. Like all tools...it works better when its maintained properly. I wash or change filters, and clean the brushbar regularly, and empty the bin after each use. The model I have now is over 5 years old and no problems...touch wood!:)

My dad's had 3 dyson's and none have lasted more then a few years. I heard lots of people saying they break too easily which totally put me off having one.
