I host some of my websites at Host1Plus, it's not quite as intuitive as some hosts, but it's carbon neutral and is very competitively priced.0

For simple stuff, been using Godaddy shared server for last few years, with consistently good experiences. About 6 quid a month, I've got half-a-dozen sites up there at the moment, all working reliably. There's one-click (almost!) install for a huge list of apps, the two I've used the most are Wordpress and Drupal, both of which can be set up dead easy, even by a relative noob, as are things like DNS and aliasing. (Don't worry, OP, you'll get the hang of these terms soon enough. I also find they're competitive to buy .com, .net and .co.uk domain names, and by far the cheapest for other tlds like .tv.0

A few months ago I moved most of my important domains from the UK's 1and1 because of a lengthy downtime. I now host my important domains on HostMonster. It wasn't until I moved that I discovered how little I was getting at 1and1. I had a problem when I first registered with HostMonster and did I have to wait a couple of days for an email reply, no they have an online chat system where my problem was solved within minutes.
My few websites left with 1and1.co.uk went down on 8/2/2010 and are still down today (17/2/2010). I have spent 2 hours on the phone and had several emails all of which said that a solution would soon be forthcoming. What caused the problem? I have 600Mb of space on the server and have 450Mb of files. On 8/2/2010 1and1 added a 160Mb log file, took me over my allocated space and immediately shut down my hosting package - read more on North Cyprus Free Press by searching Google using the phrase "why you should never host your websites with 1and1"0 -
I use GoDaddy, theyre very good but I have had a few issues, which although easily resolved, are still annoying. Try HostGator and DreamHost as well, they have excellent reputations. All three are American but I've never found that to be an issue.0

To be fair that's as much bad management on your behalf as it's 1and1's fault. I've been hosting a website through 1 and 1 for over three years and it's always been fine. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
They should not be storing log files in the hosting space allocated to a customer, they should be hosted outside of the web root, inaccessible to visitors, and not counted as part of the space rented.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

I got a GoDaddy deluxe package last night. I've used GoDaddy before. The site is rather overloaded and slow. However, the apps installation is great!0 -
Godaddy is ok for .coms if you dont have much in the way of traffic, its ideal for small cheap sites with few visitors. If you want to handle a busy site on godaddy you will need to move up to a virtual or dedicated. I would recommend the dedicated over the virtual as the virtual can have problems with space allocation been not as accurate as it should be at times.
They are not as safe with .co.uk sites (not sure if that is still the case, best to research) as they go through a third party, or at least they used to, to register those, and that can lead to problems. Fine for .coms though, just make sure to always google for a discount code first.
If your hosting a UK based site, dont forget to set up your google setup to tell it your targetting UK people, or you will be more in the USA results on google.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
